This is my second year using Winning with Writing (WWW). We used it for first and second grade.
My daughter really struggles with writing. She becomes very overwhelmed with the task. In another curriculum we used for first grade, she was asked to write a paragraph explaining how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. She was in tears. Writing such a paragraph would have been easy for her - she was able to talk out the steps to me - but writing a whole paragraph was just more than she could take in. WWW breaks up writing into smaller steps. For example, recently she had to write three sentences describing her dream bedroom. In the next lesson, she was instructed to add more details to the sentences she had written. Finally, she was to add an introductory sentence and a concluding sentence. She was amazed to realize she had written a story when it all came together at the end! It really encouraged her and made her feel successful.
I also love that Winning with Writing is a worktext. That means that the lessons are included in the workbook - there is no additional teachers guide. She is able to read the lessons herself and I only have to get involved if she has questions.
The worktexts are reasonably priced, and well worth every penny!Trisha,
