Why Homeschooling is Actually a Terrible Idea

Homeschooling is a terrible idea. Kids need to learn to operate within the "system". Kids are not only learning about english and math at school, but learn several pragmatic skills that are important to acquire in order to effectively live in society.
School is great microcosm of the world in which we live. By learning to deal with the people and the rules in that microcosm, they will be better prepared for the real world. Keeping children at home removes them from this opportunity, and hinders their ability to be successful later in life.
Hi Erin,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on why you think homeschooling is a terrible idea. I appreciate you sharing your opinion, however I do disagree with you.
Regarding your comment that school is a "great microcosm of the world in which we live"...
When was the last time YOU were in a room filled with ONLY people your own age?
Real life outside the four walls of a traditional classroom is filled with people of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life. How is learning and interacting with those who are only your age effectively preparing children for society, when this will never happen again in their life?
I would say my 8yo is learning ALOT about life and getting along with others by having to interact and deal with her 4yo classmate on a daily basis; as is my 17yo. They are learning to interact, converse and deal with others and actually enjoy having conversations and relationships with people of all ages, not just their peers.
Blessings,
Heather
