What is Required for a 3rd Grade Curriculum?
(Duval County, FL)
Calvert homeschooling mom wants to know what is required for a 3rd grade curriculum in Florida; can you help?
We live in Florida and are homeschooling our 8 year old son this year. We are using the Calvert school curriculum with ATS. We have seen some signs of ADD and are consulting with a behavior therapist. However we've found that the curriculum from the Calvert school is very hard for us to get through in one days time with his ability to concentrate being a huge factor. How would I find out what subjects are absolutely required in the state of Florida for a 3rd grader so I can eliminate others? I've searched endlessly online. I would love to do all the subjects provided in the Calvert school curriculum but with the extra time being spent on just the basics it's just not possible. I found this 3rd grade curriculum overview for Marion County, FL... you may find some helpful info in it to help guide you in streamlining your son's Calvert program.
If you notice your son catching onto certain concepts quickly and yet the curriculum has multiple worksheets on the same concept, move along. This will allow you to move through the curriculum quicker and give you more time to focus on areas where he needs extra help.
Hope this helps! Other parents may share their insight or Calvert homeschooling experience with you as well.
