Unschooling Resource: Last Child in the Woods

by Monica
(US)

Great unschooling resource for outdoor learning!

Great unschooling resource for outdoor learning!

Learn about a great unschooling resource for exploring science and math in nature...

My family follows more of an unschooling pattern than traditional homeschooling. One of the best resources that we've found is the book Last Child in the Woods. It's been a great jumping point for ideas for us to use as we explore science and math in nature. For my husband and I, we've valued the reminders to get outside with our kids and let them have supervised and unplanned time outdoors.

Our kids are learning about geology from the rocks in our yard and botany from the plants. They're learning spatial recognition when we plant seeds in the garden. I know there are other great books and resources to help with this but with our learning and teaching style, this is has been a great resource for us.

This is great; thanks for sharing this unschooling book with others! Blessings, Heather :)

Unschooling Fun
by: Jackie

It sounds like you and your family are enjoying unschooling. I really just started unschooling last year with my DD (14). I am still a newbie at it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the book. I'll have to check it out.
