Homeschooling Math Review
Former math-hating boy honestly thinks Teaching Textbooks homeschooling math curriculum is a math game! Shhh… don’t tell him its not!My son has been struggling with Math.
He was an early reader and at 11 years old, he is reading (and understanding) books I read when I was in college!
But, Math was always his enemy! He had a hard time with just memorizing math facts - he needed to know the "why" behind every equation.
We tried every homeschooling math program out there: Math U See, Saxon Math, Harcourt...you name it! He went to tutors and when he had an enthusiast and creative tutor, he wasn't getting a handle on math. Plus, now he had built up such a resistance to learning it, it became an all out war to try to do a lesson with him!
Part of me thought: well, we are a homeschool family and have the freedom from testing and "standards" that school families do - why not just let him be. Drop it for a year or two.
But then I thought that would give him the message that he was hopeless and unteachable - I didn't want him to think that mom had given up on him!
That's when a friend recommended Teaching Textbooks homeschooling math curriculum to us!
Teaching textbooks is a computer learning program. Each lesson has a intro, lecture and tips. And during the practice part, the child is given the choice to get help buy re-visiting the lecture, help with solving the problem and an explanation of the solution! The animated characters are so funny; my son FORGOT that he was doing a lesson! Now he ASKS me to play the Teaching Textbooks GAME!
He math skill are improving dramatically, but most importantly, My son over came his hatred of math! He feels confident that he CAN learn math and I's mo thankful for this wonderful program!!
What a wonderful review, Michelle! Your son's success story will definitely help others who have struggling math students. Blessings, HeatherLearn more about different
