Teaching Textbooks for Math

by Robin Yule
(Southern California)

We used Teaching Textbooks for grades 6,7 and now 8th. They are wonderful, especially for homeschooling parents who don't have the eloquence required in explaining a math concept, (such as myself)! The CD's begin with the teacher explaining how to work the math problem, then the student is given some practice problems, then the lesson starts.

Students get another chance if they work out the problem incorrectly (they work on paper workbooks and punch the answer into the computer), and there is a score at the end of the lesson. The student picks an animal to be his/her cheerleader if they choose.

Each lesson has review of all previous math problems before tackling the new concept. For my son, who likes math, this is a favorite. For my daughter, who hates math, this was too much work and we had to forgo some of the review problems to keep her attention focused. Overall a fantastic Math curriculum!

Excellent review of Teaching Textbooks, Robin; thanks for sharing! I appreciate the time you took to help others learn more about this homeschool math program. Blessings, Heather :)
