Great homeschool reading tips and review by a homeschooling veteran! After 24 years of homeschooling success, I think she knows what she is talking about...

As a homeschool mom since 1987, I have used "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" with our fifth and sixth child. I am now using this book to teach my 4 year old grandson to read as well.

This book breaks down reading into "bite size" pieces, each lesson building and reviewing on the previous ones. This is not a site word book, but teaches your child phonics. Giving your child a strong phonetic base will open up the world to him or her as a confident, capable reader.

Though this book may not be for everyone, I found it to be an indispensable part of our homeschool curriculum. For less than 22.00 it is a good bargain as well. When it comes to reading, let your child lead no matter what curriculum you choose. When they are ready, they are ready to learn!

Great review of "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons", Karen! Thanks for taking the time to help other parents learn more about this popular homeschool reading curriculum. So helpful! Blessings, Heather :)

Homeschool Reading Review: Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons

by Sarah Forbes
(Dallas, OR, USA)

Do you have a child that is ready to learn to read? Check out this homeschool reading review of "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons"...

My son was very excited about learning to read. I had began with the reader books you can pick up at Walmart. We had learned the alphabet sounds and still he was having difficulty combining the letters to make words. A friend of mine suggested 100 Easy Lessons. It was awesome!

The games were a big hit and particularly the "say it fast" game. It was that game which made the concept of letter combination click with my son. In only 10 lessons he was reading everything he could get his hands on... including my King James Bible!

I cannot comment on the rest of the book as we did not actually use it. I chose Spelling to Write and Read as our phonics program, but this book pushed us over the wall that seemed to be stopping his progress at the time. For other children with similar challenges, I am confident that this would help.

Sarah, thanks for the homeschool reading review and for taking time to help other parents learn more about "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons". Your thoughts will be helpful to others! Blessings, Heather :)

Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons

Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons

We just really fell in love with the "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" curriculum for our son. He struggled with different curricula we used for his four sisters. This just seemed to click with him.

"Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" contains short easy lessons, that keep your child's attention. He gets a kick out of trying to say the sounds and words faster than his daddy or myself, when it comes time for him to repeat what we just reviewed with him.

Thanks for taking the time to help other homeschooling parents, Janet! Blessings, Heather :)

Successful Homeschool Reading Programs

Successful Homeschool Reading Programs

Mama always says, "Good things come in small packages!" When it comes to homeschool reading programs, the same may be true... as far as this mama says... :)

My daughter LOVED the Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons book! I have to admit, I didn't believe it would work, but she was reading short words in just days!

We are new to home schooling and I was terrified I wouldn't be good enough to teach my daughter! But, using TYCTR I gained so much confidence! The step by step directions even tell you exactly what to say to your child. We finished two lessons a day and my six year old who hasn't started 1st grade yet, is reading at least at the 2nd grade level!

I highly recommend this book to anyone with children just learning to read, or just having some trouble. It was so nice to see the excitement in her face everyday when I would say to her "It's time for reading!" This book truly is a Godsend!!

Kelly, thanks for sharing about the "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" book. You testify to the fact that home educators do not have to purchase complex or expensive homeschool reading programs to find success. Happy reading, Heather :)

Affordable Home School Reading Program

Affordable Home School Reading Program

I have used the "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" home school reading program for teaching two children to read and am starting to use with my 4 1/2 year old twins.

It starts with simple letter sounds and ends at about a 2nd grade level. It is easy to follow and requires virtually no preparation, because it tells you what to say at each point in the lesson.

The lessons are short and after the first ten or so, each contain a picture. They're silly little pictures that accompany the story, and my kids' favorite parts of the lessons are reading the story and then guessing what the picture will look like.

This is a very affordable home school reading program, since it's all contained in one book which runs around $20. I purchased it 8 years ago, so I'm not sure of the current price. Mine is a little tattered and used, but still it's a great program and I'm enjoying using it as much this time around as I did at first with my oldest (12 years old).

No Need for Expensive Homeschool Reading Programs

No Need for Expensive Homeschool Reading Programs

Can't afford expensive, formal homeschool reading programs? Don't worry! Easily teach your child how to read with this popular and affordable, 100-lesson reading guide...

So, Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons is not really a "homeschool curriculum," per se, but this book has really been a huge blessing to my family!

My son should have been in the 2nd grade, but still wasn't reading as he was struggling with ADHD-type symptoms.

As a last resort, I started using "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons." It more than did the trick! My son is now reading at least a 5th grade level and is back on track!

My four year-old daughter (English is her 2nd language) is now half-way through the book and is reading Dr. Seuss and other books on her own!

Later reader? Early reader? On track reader? This book fits the bill.

Thanks for sharing about your son's reading struggles and what's working for you. The saying, "Good things come in small packages" is definitely true in this case - no need for expensive homeschool reading programs for you! :) Happy reading, Amy, Heather

Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons?

Not-so-Easy Homeschool Reading Curriculum

Not-so-Easy Homeschool Reading Curriculum

I loved the step-by-step approach of Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons, but... this homeschool reading curriculum just didn't work for us.

The beginning is ridiculous, it's so slow, and then it picks up pace too quickly without review. We bogged down around lesson twenty, and I'm not sure we'll be returning to this reading/phonics curriculum.

Thanks for sharing what you didn't like about Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. This homeschool reading curriculum didn't work for us either, yet many home educators love it. I am sure others will find your thoughts helpful. Blessings, Heather :)

Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons Review

by Rashele
(Jackson, TN)

When reading the introduction of "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons", this material seemed slightly overwhelming to me. I almost second guessed my decision to use this as my daughter's reading curriculum. Once I read over the first lesson, however, it was much simpler than I thought.

My 5 year old does one lesson per day and is doing very well. She is only a third of the way through, but can read several words and sentences. It also includes rhyming lessons within the reading so she is getting better on rhyming as well. This is the book I will continue to use with my daughter and will eventually use with my two sons.

Thanks for sharing your honest opinion of "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons", Rashele. Your thoughts are appreciated and will be very helpful to other parents looking for affordable homeschool reading curriculum. Blessings, Heather :)

Easy-to-Use Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons

by Tawa

Easy-to-Use Homeschool Reading Program

Easy-to-Use Homeschool Reading Program

Enjoy homeschool reading success with an affordable, easy-to-use phonics and reading program for young children...

I have found the book, How to Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons to be the best phonics program for my homeschool. I used it with my Preschooler (now 1st grader) and it's exceptional. It helped develop his love of reading knowing he could decode how to read without the usual sight-words method. When we finished the book, he was reading at 2nd grade level! I'm currently using it with my preschool daughter and she loves it.

Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons is a modification and extension of DISTARĀ® (Direct Instruction System for Teaching, Achievement and Remediation). Children easily move step-by-step with phonics (sounds for letters) and learn the essential skills (left out of other phonics programs) to blend the sounds into words. Built on this unique phonics foundation, children quickly start to read those words in fully illustrated stories.

It was designed to be user-friendly for parents & tutors who want to teach young (3- to 6-year old) non-readers. The book contains 100 twenty-minute lessons that are clearly color-coded and scripted (including how to motivate, teach, and correct) so that both you and the child you are teaching can be successful.

I would highly recommend this homeschool reading program for preschool/kindergarten homeschoolers who already know their alphabets and want to proceed beyond that. It worked (and still works for us).

Tawa, thanks for reviewing this affordable and easy-to-use homeschool reading program; your thoughts are greatly appreciated. Blessings, Heather :)

Looking for a parent-friendly teach your child to read resource? Check out "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons"!

This is our first year of homeschooling. I'm teaching Pre K/K to my 4 year old. I was looking for a way to teach her to read that was very parent friendly. I came across Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons and after reading some reviews I ordered it. This book is amazing! It taught me how to teach her to read before we even started the lessons. Then it told me how to teach each lesson and correct her when she was wrong. We just finished the book and she's reading at a second grade level! I see myself using this book to teach all my children to read.
