TOG Classical Homeschooling Curriculum
We've used Tapestry of Grace, Year One (classical homeschooling curriculum) for about a year now, although we took a break to try out My Father's World 1st Grade for awhile. We came back to Tapestry though because we just really loved the depth and breadth of the curriculum, and the incredible flexibility and rigor of the study.
My kids are 7.5 and 5, and when we started, I kind of overwhelmed them with the information, because I was so excited about it! We tried doing it all; with me reading all of the books at upper levels, and it just burned us all out. To be fair, it was my first year of homeschooling and I just went overboard. We took a break to try out MFW, mainly so I could get a better sense of what level and pace to teach to -- I was not geared to break the material down to the preschool/kindergarten level -- I wanted to cover it all! But six months in MFW, I was more comfortable with what my kids could take in, we had developed more of routine with read-alouds, projects, etc, and so we came back to Tapestry. And since then, it's been AWESOME!
We love the books, the variety of resources, we love doing the maps, my daughter helps me pick out our art activity (which I would tend to skip, but she LOVES!) And now we work through the material in a pretty comfortable fashion -- I'm still wanting to learn more, but I'm pacing myself for the years to come!
One of the things that drew me to the Tapestry of Grace program is the classical education model, and that we are able to use the same homeschooling curriculum with all ages of children. We get the vast majority of books from the library, so it's been extremely economical too. We'll be adding in the writing program this fall, and we can't wait to start Year 2!!
I appreciate your honesty and openness about your first year of homeschooling. I believe many, many of us are guilty of going overboard our first year or two. :) Thanks for recommending Tapestry of Grace – a popular choice for parents looking for classical homeschooling curriculum. Enjoy Year 2! Blessings, HeatherTapestry of Grace Homeschool SavingsSave money by purchasing the TOG digital version.
