Story of the World Series

Story of the World Series

I love the homeschool history curriculum Story of the World series. All of my kids have been entertained by the stories of the people who have lived before them and even my kindergartner enjoys listening to the stories as she colors the pages that go with each lesson.

I have used this homeschool history curriculum for two years now for grades K, 4th, 5th, and 6th.

I like History of the World because not only do my kids learn about history from different time periods, but they also do projects that reflect the time period we are working on. And everything is in just three books that are pretty inexpensive.

All in all, the main reading book, the Activity book, and the test booklet are under $65.00. And you may be able to find them in local bookstores, so that keeps the cost of shipping down.

If you have more than one child, just copy the answers from the activity book, rather than buying more than one activity book.

The Story of The World on CD

Story of the World on CD

Story of the World on CD

Forget the boring history lessons, homeschooling mom shares how Story of the World on CD is a fun and captivating way to learn history...

We love The Story of the World on CD homeschool history course. It is appropriate for all ages through 8th grade, perhaps higher.

We love to listen to it (the recordings are by award-winning story-teller, Jim Weiss) as a family, then discuss the chapter. The only problem is that we can't just listen to one! It pulls you in and everyone loves it. History comes alive.

So much for the boring history lessons we as parents had in our schooling. History is a great subject when using this curriculum.

Thanks for sharing this great resource; it's much appreciated! Blessings, Heather :)

Homeschool History Curriculum: Story of The World

Homeschool History Curriculum Review

Homeschool History Curriculum Review

History truly is HIS story and this homeschool history curriculum helps children to understand how.

I have been using the Story of the World books for three years now and am extremely happy with them. The books are well-written, provide a complete world view of history, and can be used with all four of my children (ages 4-12). While the older children need lots of supplementary material, these books provide a starting point and overview in very easy to understand, and enjoyable text.

When you purchase the Activity books to go along with it, you find lists of great books (easily found at many libraries to further lower costs) to follow each theme, as well as maps, suggested activities, and coloring pages for the younger kids.

The series covers history from ancient times all the way through modern days over the course of all four books.

They are very affordable, especially since they can be used with such a variety of ages.

I was very pleased to find this series and highly recommend it to any parent, especially those who have a hard time discovering the fun in studying history.

Jessica, thanks for sharing about The Story of the World homeschool history curriculum - I love your helpful tips too! Blessings, Heather :)

Story of the World for Homeschool History

Great Homeschool History Resource

Great Homeschool History Resource

Liven up your homeschool history lessons with this popular and engaging read-aloud series...

I am currently using the first volume of "The Story of the World" for my children's homeschool history lessons. It is a great program for children who learn by listening, via the cds, by reading, via the textbooks, and doing, by the activity books. There are also tests to make sure they have understood the lesson for those who want that security. The cds are well-read and entertaining. We especially enjoy the many projects which help us apply and learn more.

Hi Stephanie,
Thanks for sharing about this wonderful homeschool history resource. I have heard of this series, but have never used it. I checked out The Story of the World at CBD and would like to know what ages/grades you think this book is good for?
Blessings,
Heather

Update:
I want to add that my daughter absolutely LOVES the Story of the World CDs. She first started listening to them when she was around seven; she would listen to them over and over again. She is eleven and still enjoys listening to them.

Love the audio cds
by: mrs dani

This serious was just what we wanted. Everything in order instead of skipping from one time period to another which was very confusing for the kids.

I highly recommend getting the audio cds. They are worth the money. Plus you can convert them to MP3 with your computer and listen to them on the Ipods.

I saved & bought the cds and we listen to them in the car on trips to the library, dance, store, church, you name it. It has really saved us time! (we have a little girl who comes home with us on Sundays sometimes and she cant wait to hear them) We will also listen while eating breakfeast or lunch.

a little tip, check amazon.com or Booksamillion.com . Sometimes you can get a new copy cheaper than a used one on ebay. You have to shop around a bit.

Grades

The Story of the World Volume 1 is best for the younger grades. I would not use it for anything above 4/5.

for younger and older kids
by: mrs dani

I would have to disagree with the above comment. The activity booklet gives activities for both the younger and higher grades. This is great if you have many different grades. You can use this as a starting point and keep you on track for all of the important events in history; sort of a guideline of what to study. The younger kids can do the coloring sheets, while the older can do the more advanced activity suggestions AND they then can go to the library or online to look up more in depth info about events and perhaps do a presentation for the younger ones later in the week.

Now if you only have grades above 7th in your home, then yes, this book series would be too "young" for your homeschool. However, I know of a couple of homeschooling mothers who are not history buffs like myself who have sat down to read these and not only learned a great deal but enjoyed reading them. One mother I know has read all 4 books in the series at least twice in three years!
