Cancer-surviving home educator highly recommends this curriculum and shares God's faithfulness to her during difficult times...

I am still kind of new to home schooling so I have tons to learn yet. My son is 12 and going into 6th grade this year but his Dad and I decided at the end of last school year, that schooling him at home was the best thing for him, as well as for me.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2006 when I was 33 years old. He was only 8 years old then and my daughter was 15. They both reacted totally opposite of what I had expected. My daughter shut me out and my son wanted to be with me every minute. He is such a blessing to me, always making sure that I have what I need.

My main objective is to be with him and I am disgusted with the public school system for shutting God out. We had Bible study with local college students when I was in school but now a teacher can be fired for uttering His name; it sickens me.

We knew it would be a financial struggle but the Lord always opens doors. I was left disabled and on Social Security, which never lasts, but I am thankful for it. My
husband hasn't lost his job but we did have to move in with my Mom when I got sick. The medicine was so expensive, that a few times it was medications or food. I have always tried to be frugal and I love my coupons!!!

When I began searching for curriculum, I got a little nervous because some of it can get expensive. I went to Amazon, my favorite website, and amazingly I found two of the Spectrum books there and within 15 minutes, I found every subject. What really let me know that He provided once again, is that I had $50 in my Amazon account from doing surveys, and my book total came to $49.12!!! I still get chills thinking of it.

I really am pleased with the Spectrum series and they are not so easy that he gets bored but there is enough of a challenge to interest him. I have also found some great websites, this being one of them. I really do look forward to learning even more.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting your review of Spectrum's affordable home schooling materials AND for sharing your story! You are a remarkable woman, Lisa. May God richly bless you and your family as you learn together this year. Blessings, Heather :)

Inspiring NEW
by: Shona

Just wanted to tell you that I think you are an incredibly strong woman for taking on Homeschooling while dealing with a life-altering illness. I too, feel the calling to Homeschool my children and also I am dealing with a difficult illness. I have questioned myself time and again, on whether I was really hearing the call from the Lord. I have realized it could only come from Him, as I feel so inadequate. I feel very strongly that my children should never feel or be restricted in talking about Jesus or praying. Jesus is the very center of our lives. How can we then tell our children that the place where they would spend most of their waking hours, that Jesus was not welcome and talk of Him was off limits. I cannot. I want my children to grasp their need for Jesus to saturate EVERY area of their lives. No limitations. So, I too, will educate my children with God's guidance, provision and blessing. You, you are doing a good thing. God bless you and keep you and your family.

Spectrum Series Review

by Kelly

Looking for a cost-efficient, easy curriculum? Check out what this mom used to start homeschooling her kids!

I wasn't sure where to start with so many options when homeschooling! I was kind of thrown in to the decision, as my child was sick and needed to be home. So while at a local office supply store, I came across Spectrum homeschool books. I thought, well why not try one? We've been so pleased with the curriculum and learning experience! They offer separate skill books, supplemental, and testing. It's very nice to be able to run to the local book store or office supply to grab more books when you need them!

The books are set in an easy-to-use manner, with a pre-test for each section, then the practice pages, and then a post-test. It also includes a mid-test and final test. The pages are clear and uncluttered. Like I said, we were thrown into homeschooling, but have ended up loving it and will probably stick with it. It's only mid of first year and I'm glad to have found this site to learn more and have a resource for future needs!

Thanks Kelly for sharing; we all love to read about curriculum that is affordable and hassle-free!

by Aimee
(Washington, US)

Homeschooling mom recommends Spectrum homeschool phonics and spelling curriculum because it's affordable and easy-to-use! Read her thoughts...

The Spectrum Phonics and Spelling grade 3 curriculum by Carson-Dellosa, is the easiest, no-frills phonics and spelling curriculum.

Spectrum is affordable and very easy for children to understand. It provides repetitive skills for both Spelling and Phonics building skills learned from each lesson.

The Spelling curriculum offers reviews and a test section. I like the way it breaks down the words into several ways to learn them.

Thanks for sharing these affordable homeschool phonics and spelling books with other parents! Your thoughts are appreciated! Blessings, Heather :)

Aimee is right, Spectrum homeschool curriculum is affordable! You can choose from an ebook for $5.99 (from the Carson-Dellosa website) or regular print book for $9.95 or less - available online or at brick and mortar stores.
