Saxon Math Homeschool Kindergarten Kit

First year homeschooling mom shares some helpful insights into Saxon math homeschool Kindergarten curriculum...

I like Saxon Math K Home Study course for my preschooler because it's preparing him well for kindergarten. I like the fact that it has a "teacher script", as a first time homeschool teacher, this is nice. I would say that this book may be too easy for a K level child. It's a good book to use as a refresher for a child in the K level.

Lessons are repetitive and build on each other. The manipulatives kit would be good to get as it goes well with the lessons. But you can substitute similar items you may have around your home or purchase them from a local store as you need items. The manipulatives kit is a bit pricey but you will get your moneys worth if you take care of it. It will work well with the years of homeschool ahead. This is a nice program, my child enjoys it.

Hi Melissa,
Thanks so much for the Saxon Math homeschool Kindergarten Kit review. Your thoughts are appreciated and so helpful. I have purchased the Saxon Math Kindergarten program and found it too easy for my children who had some math prior to Kindergarten. I purchased the manipulatives for Saxon 13+ years ago. We still have almost everything except our counting bears – the manipulatives were toys to our second oldest. She played with them every day, even when we didn't do math, so we have lost a few items. :) Thanks again for sharing your experience with the homeschool saxon math program. Blessings, Heather :)

Saxon Math Homeschool Testimonial

by Kristie
(Alvin,TX)

Homeschooling mom of three teens shares her family's positive experience with Saxon Math; read her Saxon Math homeschool testimonial to learn more...

Our children started out in a private school. They were introduced to Saxon Math during that time. We have been homeschooling for six years now and still use Saxon Math. Our youngest son is 13 and starting the 7th grade (my husband has him 2 grades ahead in math) we started homeschooling him in 2nd grade. My other two sons (15 &16) are in the 10th and 11th grade and excel in math. I would highly recommend Saxon Math to give your child the foundation they will need for college. The material is not just covered and moves on, it incorporates what they have learned throughout the book.

Great testimonial for Saxon Math, Kristie! Thanks so much for sharing your family's experience with this popular homeschool math curriculum. Blessings, Heather :)

Saxon Homeschool Math Pitfalls

by Sarah Lentz
(Zimmerman, MN)

Homeschooling mom shares some Saxon homeschool math pitfalls from her personal experience; read her Saxon 54 review...

We used Saxon Math 54 this past school year. Our 9-yr-old daughter used the second edition set, and her older brother--who hated MCP Math last year--used the third edition set. Both became progressively exhausted and bored with the load of busywork for each lesson. The daily drills not only required making enough copies of the requisite drills for each lesson (we used the copier at our local library) for the second edition but punished our son for his boredom for the same questions day after day. Getting a better score than the day before just wasn't enough of a motivator. It was boring, plain and simple. And it made them both dread math every day; my daughter was literally bored to tears. She understood the material (it really wasn't much of a challenge), but the excess busywork, added to the obligatory daily drills, made it a drudgery. I don't want my kids to hate math, so we won't be using Saxon homeschool math anymore. Maybe it works for some kids, but it was a pain in the neck to my kids and to me.

Hi Sarah,
Although, Saxon Math is a very popular homeschool math curriculum, it may not be the perfect solution for every child or family, as is true in your case. I really do appreciate the time you took to honestly share your experience with others. Blessings, Heather :)

Saxon Math Homeschool Math Made Easy

Saxon Math Homeschool Math Review

Saxon Math Homeschool Math Review

Saxon Math homeschool math curriculum ends this mom's homeschooling math fears and her kids love doing math again...

I honestly used to be a little afraid of Saxon Math. Always thought it was going to be boring with all the "drills" I had heard about. However, after being unhappy with the math curriculum we were using, I decided to go for it.

I was so pleasantly surprised when we started using the program and how my kids just eased right into it. My daughter who used 5/4 loves math again! It doesn't have all the "extra" colorful pictures that some do, but that is one of the things I love about it. No distractions no "stories" to read just math and math done well.

We have used it for one year and will continue to use it this year. I have used 5/4 and 7/6, this year we will use 6/5 and 8/7. You can find programs that are less expensive, but for our family it was worth every penny.

Lara, thanks for taking the time to help other parents learn more about Saxon Math homeschool math curriculum. It has been a great fit for our family too! Blessings, Heather :)
