Saxon Home School Curriculum Review

Saxon Home School Curriculum Success

Home educator of five children shares why she uses Saxon home school curriculum and how it's reducing her family's college expenses. Read her review...

We have used Saxon home school curriculum math since the 1990s, when it became more available to homeschoolers. (We began homeschooling formally in 1986.) We have always begun with the 54 level.

I used to use BJU or ABeka first and then with third grade I began with Saxon slowly and even wrote out the lessons for a while to transition children from workbooks to the text book. By the end of 54, if not before, each child has been capable of writing out their own lessons. :-)

We have used this Saxon home school curriculum through three of our children completely and are using it also for our last two. One child was older when we started Saxon and thus used it very little, one child is special needs and our youngest is still working through it.

I appreciate how John Saxon wrote the books so that a child who reads well can basically self teach themselves and the spiral review ingrains the lessons in their brains. :-) They really learn this!

I never took Calculus, but our third born went through it, taught himself it and tested out of all basic college math, he did have to take the engineering specialized courses, but was well prepared for them. Our second born was well prepared for his college math and excelled in his business degree. These two sons both graduated magna cum laude from Kansas State University where the third born is currently pursuing his master's degree in electrical engineering.

Saxon home school curriculum is affordable because you can often find the texts used and as they are non-consumable, they can be used by multiple children.

Thanks so much for sharing why you use Saxon Math, how it's preparing your children for college success AND helping to reduce your family's college expenses - every little bit helps! :) I think others will find it very helpful and encouraging. Blessings, Heather
PS We also use Saxon and love it!
