Saxon Curriculum Courses

I love Saxon Math books. We been homeschooling for seven years and have used Saxon curriculum for the last six years.

We've used Math 3 all the way to Algebra 1/2.
My kids can do the math lesson and problems without any assistance from me. It's nice to have a book that is so well organized and offers enough practice that they student learns the problems easily and well.

Each Saxon math lesson involves some "mental math" which are problems done in their head, a timed math sheet, the lesson, and then approximately 25-30 problems to complete. There are tests after completing five lessons.

My son sometimes wants to finish school early in the day. He gets up early, completes his lesson and problems before I'm up. He's so proud of himself. He's only 10. He just completed Saxon Math 5/4 last year and will be doing 6/5 this year. He's just starting the 5th grade.

My daughter completed Algebra 1/2 last year and had very few problems understanding how to do the lessons.

We will begin Algebra 1 this year. I did purchase the DIVE CD and am quite impressed with the assistance it offers for Algebra.

I love Saxon curriculum and would never switch home school math programs.

We have used Saxon Math for many years too. Thanks for highlighting some important features of Saxon Math home school math curriculum, Lisa; I appreciate it! Blessings, Heather :)

Saxon Curriculum Success

Home educator of five children shares why she uses Saxon curriculum and how it's reducing her family's college expenses. Read her review...

We have used Saxon curriculum math since the 1990s, when it became more available to homeschoolers. (We began homeschooling formally in 1986.) We have always begun with the 54 level.

I used to use BJU or ABeka first and then with third grade I began with Saxon slowly and even wrote out the lessons for a while to transition children from workbooks to the text book. By the end of 54, if not before, each child has been capable of writing out their own lessons. :-)

We have used this Saxon home school curriculum through three of our children completely and are using it also for our last two. One child was older when we started Saxon and thus used it very little, one child is special needs and our youngest is still working through it.

I appreciate how John Saxon wrote the books so that a child who reads well can basically self teach themselves and the spiral review ingrains the lessons in their brains. :-) They really learn this!

I never took Calculus, but our third born went through it, taught himself it and tested out of all basic college math, he did have to take the engineering specialized courses, but was well prepared for them. Our second born was well prepared for his college math and excelled in his business degree. These two sons both graduated magna cum laude from Kansas State University where the third born is currently pursuing his master's degree in electrical engineering.

Saxon curriculum is affordable because you can often find the texts used and as they are non-consumable, they can be used by multiple children.

Thanks so much for sharing why you use Saxon Math, how it's preparing your children for college success AND helping to reduce your family's college expenses - every little bit helps! :) I think others will find it very helpful and encouraging. Blessings, Heather
PS We also use Saxon and love it!

Saxon Curriculum Success!

Saxon Curriculum Success!

I have a daughter (8) who we have been home schooling for three years. We started her on Saxon curriculum from the beginning, and could not be more pleased!!

She is gifted in math, so we accelerated her two years (we started her on 3/2 when she was in kindergarten), and she has done quite well, even with the more difficult material.

I think Saxon Math has been such a great match for our daughter because of its format. Our daughter gets bored doing the same type of problem over and over again, but that is not a concern with Saxon, as new topics are discussed, and then the child is given only a handful of the new type of math problems. The rest of the lesson will be made of review problems that are mixed together, so she must continually think about how to solve this mixture of problems.

Saxon's format also makes it easy to further accelerate your child, or make up for missed days. Because your child is tested approximately once every week (depending on level), it is easy to track what concepts they are getting, and what they are not. IF your child seems to fully comprehend a concept, you can just choose to skip those questions. In the Saxon format, particular concept questions are easy for the parent to find, as they seem to be placed in a similar location of each lesson.

I love that we can adapt the Saxon lessons easily from day to day. We can make the lesson long or short, depending on the schedule of the day. If we are pressed for time, we simply do the new material, and when we have more time, we do the whole lesson. We can verify that she is right on track by evaluating her weekly tests.

I think Saxon Math curriculum is a great, very versatile program!

Great Saxon curriculum review, Rebeca; appreciate the time you took to help other parents learn more about Saxon. Blessings, Heather:)

Saxon Curriculum for Math

by Rebecca Keesee
(Olympia, Wa USA)

Home educator shares some reasons why Saxon curriculum has been a good choice for her children for almost four years...

I have used Saxon math for about four years. We have used 76, 87, Algebra 1/2 & Algebra 1. I like that fact that Saxon teaches something and continues to review what's been learned already. They don't just teach it and forget about by moving on.

I also really love the Saxon teacher's manual. It shows how the problem is worked out step-by-step and doesn't just give only the answer. One of my children is more self-taught and works more independently. The other one needs more help understanding. Both of them seem to like this curriculum better than some of the others we have tried.

Thanks for taking the time to share what you and your children like about Saxon curriculum, Rebecca! Your thoughts are greatly appreciated and will help other parents who are looking for math curriculum for their family. Blessings, Heather :)

Saxon Math Home School Testimonial

I have used Saxon curriculum K-3 programs for two children. I find that it helps me to teach a subject I don't care for with confidence. I also enjoy the activities that it includes to make learning fun and interesting for the child.
