THE STORY OF GOD'S CHOSEN FAMILY- GRADES 5-8

Are your middle schoolers eager to learn Bible and History? Experience inexpensive educational enjoyment with Rod and Staff homeschool curriculum!

The Story of God's Chosen Family course is both a Bible and History study. We have used this for the past three years with our middle school age students. It is both enjoyable and educational with both boys eager to participate and look up needed verses in the WORD. You will need a KJV or NKJV to understand the historical vocabulary.

We study one lesson a week and review/discuss according to the Teacher's Edition. The student books are write-in/consumable. We have all learned so much about the historical context of the Bible and our interest and desire to read the next chapter and verses is exciting.

I choose to participate with my children each Friday, after they have done the daily work independently. There are a few unit tests to use if you choose.

Altogether each set costs about $20, or less for the younger grades. This is very affordable and I attest to the fun we have had learning, as well as to what the boys have retained. I am also able to keep up with this and three other younger students. They are also able to use past books as resources for other assignments.

I have had several teachers at church comment on how well the older boys know the Bible and they have only completed through grade 6 (King Saul-Old Testament.)

I recommend this highly to any students who are proficient at the Grade 5 reading level.

Thanks for the Rod and Staff review, Michelle - helpful for anyone looking for an affordable way to teach multiple kids easily. :)

Rod and Staff Homeschool Curriculum Pros and Cons

Rod and Staff Homeschool Curriculum

Rod and Staff Homeschool Curriculum

Well, we went with Rod and Staff homeschool curriculum primarily because it was a complete curriculum that had good reviews. The cost was also reasonable...

I love the God-centeredness.
I love how thorough it is.
I love that it has a lot of review.

I don't like that you have to plan each day. I also don't like that it has a lot of seat work. I have an adhd child and he has a tough time with the math. I think we will probably not last with this curriculum.

Beth, thanks for sharing some pros and cons of the Rod and Staff homeschool curriculum. Your thoughts will be helpful to others considering this curriculum option. Blessings, Heather :)

Rod and Staff Homeschool Curriculum: All Courses

by Debra Brumley
(Skedee, ok.)

My husband is an evangelist and we have traveled and schooled our last child at home. Rod and Staff homeschool curriculum stays on track, is God centered, and teaches moral values through lessons with excellent teacher helps.

Everything I have used in their curriculum is of excellent quality. Rod and Staff teaches your children to share, think about others, our community and honoring God and family.

Rod and Staff is very affordable and you can trade off with other home schoolers. I have used 2nd grade through 7th grade.

Thanks for sharing your experience with Rod and Staff homeschool curriculum, Debra! Your thoughts are appreciated and will be helpful to others who are considering Rod and Staff for their family. Blessings, Heather :)

Rod and Staff Homeschool Curriculum Pros and Cons

by Elizabeth
(Scottville MI)

Homeschooling mom shares some pros and cons of Rod and Staff homeschool curriculum...

I was raised using Rod and Staff homeschool curriculum and I did well in it. However, it is more geared toward a church school setting.

Rod and Staff is easy enough if you are raised in it, but switching into it is pretty tough. Also, it is not self explanatory, therefore requiring more teacher/class time, not necessarily bad, but not all of us have extra time.

The lower grade reading is nice because it teaches all the old Testament stories, kinda like Bible/reading combined. The older grades though, have good moral reading, but it is rather weak & lacks interest.

I would suggest using Christian Light for the higher grades as it has more depth. Over all a good curriculum, depending on your teaching style.

I appreciate your honesty regarding Rod and Staff homeschool curriculum, Elizabeth; your thoughts are definitely helpful! Blessings, Heather :)
