Rod and Staff Homeschool Curriculum Pros and Cons

by Elizabeth
(Scottville MI)

Homeschooling mom shares some pros and cons of Rod and Staff homeschool curriculum...

I was raised using Rod and Staff homeschool curriculum and I did well in it. However, it is more geared toward a church school setting.

Rod and Staff is easy enough if you are raised in it, but switching into it is pretty tough. Also, it is not self explanatory, therefore requiring more teacher/class time, not necessarily bad, but not all of us have extra time.

The lower grade reading is nice because it teaches all the old Testament stories, kinda like Bible/reading combined. The older grades though, have good moral reading, but it is rather weak & lacks interest.

I would suggest using Christian Light for the higher grades as it has more depth. Over all a good curriculum, depending on your teaching style.

I appreciate your honesty regarding Rod and Staff homeschool curriculum, Elizabeth; your thoughts are definitely helpful! Blessings, Heather :)
