Rod and Staff Homeschool Curriculum Review

Simple and affordable, Rod and Staff homeschool curriculum is perfect for budget-conscious families looking for traditional teaching materials.

This is our third year for Rod and Staff English and we love it. It is very easy to teach. The lessons are quick and full of information. We have used grades three, four and are working through grade five this year.

I really enjoy the simplicity of the books. They are wholesome and just plain nice. Is also very affordable. Each book is around $15.00.

You can also reuse the books for your younger children. The test books and worksheet book only cost about $1.50. Very affordable!

One summer my children did a Rod and Staff course (Bible, I think) just for fun and enjoyed it as well. Thanks for sharing, Diana! Blessings, Heather

Rod and Staff Homeschool English Review

Rod and Staff Homeschool English Review

Busy homeschooling mom of five shares some great benefits of Rod and Staff homeschool English curriculum...

I love the thoroughness of the Rod and Staff homeschool English curriculum. I have used it for 2nd through 7th grades and plan to continue using it through 10th grade.

I am a homeschool mom of five and don't have lots of time to spend in preparing lessons, so I love the fact that it is a pick up and go curriculum.

I also feel that it is very affordable, since the only items that must be repurchased are the test and worksheet booklets. If cost is still a factor one can get along without the worksheet booklet.

Dixie, thanks so much for sharing about Rod and Staff homeschool English curriculum! "Pick-up and go" curriculum - I love that description! Blessings, Heather :)

Rod and Staff English, Phonics, and Reading

by Angela Radcliffe
(Shady Spring, West Virginia)

Twenty-two years with Rod and Staff curriculum... why? Read Angela's Rod and Staff English, Phonics and English review to find out!

I have used Rod and Staff curriculum for 22 years with my three older children and now with my three younger children. We switched a couple times throughout the years but always came back to Rod and Staff because of how thorough this curriculum is. My oldest son is contemplating med school and credits Rod and Staff for his writing and reading abilities. My second oldest son just graduated from Liberty University with a double major and is now working on his master's degree in Business, and he said that Rod and Staff English helped to set him above his peers in his ability to communicate and write well. My daughter excelled at Liberty also in their DLP course. She too plans to use Rod and Staff to homeschool her children. She says that it is very though.

Rod and Staff can sometimes be tedious and repetitive, but as the old saying goes "repetition is the mother of learning". I have also watched this prove true with my three younger children in their writing and spelling abilities. All of my children are excellent spellers and readers, and they always score well on their end of year tests, and I credit Rod and Staff's excellent curriculum. At a homeschool conference, the speaker said something that caused me to return to Rod and Staff curriculum. She said that children will get bored with any curriculum you use, but you have to teach them perseverance because not everything they do in life will be fun. They have to learn to work even when it is not fun. All college work will not be fun. The occupation they choose will not always be fun so why do we think all schoolwork has to be fun? Learning takes diligence and hard work. Sometimes it will be fun most times it will not be fun, but they must persevere. Rod and Staff is a quality curriculum and the learning sticks.

Wow! What a great review and testimony for Rod and Staff English, Phonics, and Reading, Angela! Thanks for sharing your experience with others; your thoughts are greatly appreciated and helpful. Such a true statement: "you have to teach them perseverance because not everything they do in life will be fun. They have to learn to work even when it is not fun." Blessings, Heather :)

Rod and Staff Building Christian English Homeschool Curriculum Review

by Joannie
(Calimesa, CA)

We used Rod and Staff Building Christian English homeschool curriculum with my daughter for 2nd grade. It was extremely easy to use, and I liked the fact that most of the sentences were Bible-based.

The lessons didn't take long to complete, and my daughter retained the information easily.

Unfortunately, the next two years we switched to a different curriculum provider because a friend gave us their old materials, and we really didn't enjoy it at all. The lessons seemed to take twice as long as the Rod & Staff lessons, and they just felt tedious and tiresome to complete.

We'll definitely be switching back to Rod and Staff English for 5th grade.
