K12.com Homeschool Review

Home educator shares about Core Curriculum Series as well as a K12.com review...

When I decided to homeschool I looked at a lot of curriculum. I discovered the Core Knowledge Series and determined that this was the best fit for my family. Then K12.com came on line... their curriculum was so close to the Core Knowledge books, we decided to give it a try.

I have now schooled several children using K/12 from K through 8. It is a mastery program, and builds on what you have learned in previous lessons and grades. The subjects all support each other: Art is a great campaign for History, which has reading material supporting it, in Literature. Science and Math are challenging and I love the multi approaches to teaching the objectives in each lesson.

In the beginning it was a little pricey and it requires you to have internet access for some parts of the lessons, but much of the materials can now be purchased on e-bay or found in the library. You need to purchase the entire curriculum, so if you don't care for their approach to Math or your child is very advanced in Literature, you can purchase the subjects at the level your child is learning. Also, you can easily have your children share subjects.

I found this curriculum to be challenging, with optional activities for the child who wants do more and plenty of ideas on ways to learn more on a subject, if it sparks your child's interest.

Thanks for taking time to write an informative K12.com review and how K12 is similar to the Core Knowledge Series; your thoughts are very helpful, Matti! Blessings, Heather :)

Mom Turns Teacher Using K12 Online Program

by Susan M
(US)

I have used K12 online program for three consecutive years with my three children. We've completed grades K, 1st, 2nd and 3rd with K12.

I love the fact that K12 is an online school. It is state funded and I get all of my materials free of charge. This includes a computer and printer, art materials and science equipment.

The state also assigns a teacher to monitor our progress and keep all of our paper work in line. The only thing I don't like is the requirment to do state testing.

Thanks for sharing some pros and cons of K12 homeschooling program; its much appreciated! Blessings, Heather

Free K12 Curriculum

by Kani Sacks

Learn more about free K12 curriculum for Texas families...

I enrolled my oldest in K12 this year. It is a virtual public school that supplies all the materials needed for the entire school year, and best of all it is free because it is considered a public school so everything is paid for by the government.

We have really enjoyed the curriculum they are providing, with the mixture of online and offline work. Everything is up to state standards. The one down fall I have found it that the student is required to complete the yearly required testing.

Kani, thanks for taking the time to share what you like and don't like about the free K12 curriculum that is available to Texas families. Your thoughts are appreciated and helpful! Blessings, Heather :)
