Prairie Primer Homeschool Unit Studies

Early Elementary Homeschool Unit Studies

Early elementary homeschool unit studies curriculum helps your family travel back in time and brings the days of Laura Ingalls Wilder to life!

Our first year of homeschooling was scary and we were overwhelmed with the amount of curriculum choices available. We chose the Prairie Primer for the first two years. We went through about half the book the first year and finished it the second year. This is a very economical option.

Prairie Primer is a (literature-based) homeschool unit studies curriculum based around the Little House On the Prairie book series. The large Prairie Primer (PP) softcover book is divided into sections with lessons for each book in the Little House series. I read aloud the assigned chapter/s of the Little House book series each day and there were science, English, art and social studies activities for each chapter.

I found PP to be a very easy homeschool unit studies curriculum to follow.

I was able to select the amount of activities we did each day. Each activity had a connection of some sort to the reading for that day. I found it helpful to preview a week at a time to be sure we had the appropriate supplies and determine which activities we would participate in.

I would caution others to be careful not to try to cram too many activities into one day. When the children were overwhelmed it wasn't fun for anyone anymore. I find it easier to start with a minimum amount and add to it as time allows. My children have very fond memories of The Prairie Primer. I just have not been able to bring myself to sell it. It is a gem.

Terri, thanks for the Prairie Primer review. One day I am going to use this curriculum with my young ones. Blessings, Heather :)
