Hi, my name is Joy. I'm a homeschooling Mom of four and I have always looked for a way to teach within our budget. And I found something great that I want to share with you!
Owl and Mouse at http://www.yourchildlearns.com is a great learning website that offers FREE, yes, I said, FREE, online teaching map puzzles.
The puzzles are very colorful and engaging. All four of my children learned their states and capitals using these map puzzles. And when the children were done practicing, while having fun... I took my turn on the map puzzles.
There are also online reading pages, phonics games, letter sounds, and recognition games. This this may sound crazy, but it doesn't end there. There are U.S. Maps, giant letters, a castle, a farm, a town, and more, that can be printed out and used with your curriculum.
My sons and daughter had a great time building the castle and farm that I printout out. I printed it all on card stock, they colored and glued it together.
I printed out poster size maps to chart the explorer's expeditions and to label states and capitals. Also, there are learning projects that you will find links to take you to even more free educational lessons.
I have used this site for eight years with my four children. It a great tool because it allows for online and offline learning. There is such a great variety of free activities to choose from.
Get on the website and look around, there is something for every age level. I know it will be a bonus to you and your children.Joy,
What a great resource - thanks for sharing your experience with this free educational website! I just looked at the Castle printout; how cool is that?! We just finished a unit on the Middle Ages; the castle would have been a fun project to construct. I will definitely be using the maps for our Age of Exploration unit! Blessings, Heather :)
