Online Home School Review
Compass Learning Odyssey, also known as Child U, is also the online home school program that Time4learning.com uses. We have access to this program through our local district, but if you don't have access to it, you can pay $20 a month and use it on Time4learning.com. They also offer a cool playground reward system with subscriptions to sites such as Brainpop as part of their program.
We have been using this online home school curriculum for three years now. My daughter loves the animation, and the check marks and gold stars for when she has completed a section. I love that it keeps track of what she's done, and how long she took to do it, and keeps the scores of all her tests and assignments. They have a few areas where kids can write or play around with numbers (in the Math section) that my daughter really enjoys.
The downside is that some of the animations might take too long and frustrate a child who would rather go faster, and sometimes instructions need deciphering and explanation by an adult (but not so much in grades K-2, just when they start getting into grade 3 and above). Also, as they get older, the animations get less, and there is more reading with pick your answer from these choices kind of thing, and my daughter doesn't like that.
I like too that Time4learning.com charges month to month, so that if you find your child or children aren't into it anymore, then you haven't invested hundreds of dollars.
The program is very thorough in math and language arts, and has some very interesting science and social studies units as well.
