Oak Meadow Homeschool Curriculum Success

Oak Meadow Homeschool Curriculum Success

I am currently using the Oak Meadow homeschool curriculum for my third grade daughter.

I really enjoyed this curriculum. It gives great, creative, hands-on ideas and avoids too much dry text-bookish stuff. Each lesson has some brief information for discussion and lesson-oriented activities, or books you can read, etc.

I like the way Oak Meadow makes learning hands-on and entertaining. For spelling lessons, it will give you ideas for things like making a windsock and writing a spelling word on each streamer, writing them on the sidewalk in chalk, drawing a map of a small town and naming streets and buildings after spelling words, tossing a ball back and forth while you chant the spelling words, etc.

For math, there are some standard numeric and story problems for practicing math, but there are also things like making your own math games and playing them. Oak Meadow also incorporates real life math, by doing things like having her work with menus and shopping on a budget.

Thanks for the great review of Oak Meadow homeschool curriculum, Em! Love your details! Blessings, Heather :)

Oak Meadow Homeschool Curriculum Review and Math-U-See

Oak Meadow Homeschool Curriculum Review

Oak Meadow Homeschool Curriculum Review

Learn some Oak Meadow homeschool curriculum pros and cons from this homeschooling mom of two boys...

We are currently homeschooling our two boys (7 and 9). We are using Oak Meadow homeschool curriculum and supplementing with Math U See. I like the style of learning.

Oak Meadow is pretty flexible and you can change things and time things as it works best for your family. The second grade curriculum leaves a bit too much for me to come up with on my own. You have to come up with math problems, language arts sentences, etc. I would prefer a few pages of ready to go practice and then we could skip ahead if needed.

The 5th grade curriculum is a bit more structured and easier to follow. I have ended up using it more than the 2nd grade. The Math U See, I added for my 2nd grader and it is working pretty well. We like the manipulatives, they really help him understand and engage him. We do not watch the DVD, we just work through the worksheets at our own pace. I think Oak Meadow homeschool curriculum can work well for someone who can invest a bit of time into the lesson planning.

Thanks for the Oak Meadow homeschool curriculum review, Tamara! Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. Blessings, Heather :)

Oak Meadow Curriculum

Oak Meadow Curriculum

Oak Meadow Curriculum

Renee, a homeschooling mom of four shares her experience using Oak Meadow curriculum for grades 3, 5, 7, and 9...

We have been using Oak Meadow curriculum and for the most part really love it. We have successfully completed the 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th grade curriculum. It is very much based on the Waldorf tradition, which I really love, but put into a format that is acceptable for our states regulations and makes our evaluator happy :).

The one thing I have to say about the younger grades is that there is very little that you can give to your child for independent work, which would be just fine if I were homeschooling just one, but I'm doing three or four at a time. It would be nice if there were some independent bookwork, but then again, that is very Waldorf, so if I were a Waldorf purist, that would pretty much be that case even with the 5th grader.

Renee,
Thank you so much for posting a review of Oak Meadow curriculum and sharing the features you like best about this homeschool program. I appreciate that you included the one thing you don't like about it; it will help parents get a better understanding of what to expect if they choose this program for their family. Blessings, Heather :)
