NC Homeschooling Questions and High School Help
Concerned military mom wants to pull her seventeen year old son out of public school but has some NC homeschooling questions...I am military wife and have watched my seventeen year old all but lose hope in the education system. He was once full of ideas, hopes, and big dreams. After starting high school in Va those dreams and ideas diminished.
I have relocated him to NC and I see him trying but I just see him being left behind. I have lost hope in the public school system and I can't stand by and watch my child be destroyed by it in which I have seen so many before him. How do I get started or is it too late?
Hi Yvette,
It's never too late to begin homeschooling. Here is some information on the homeschool laws for North Carolina.
North Carolina Notice of Intent to Homeschool

North Carolina Annual Attendance Sheet

Make sure you get a copy of your son's public school records. You can create your own homeschool transcript with this free homeschool transcript template.
I would take some time to sit down with your son and find out where he is at with school - courses he has taken, what he enjoys, where he struggles, etc. You may already have a good idea of the areas where he is struggling.
You will find a wide variety of high school curriculum for all different types of learners. If you would like to see samples of different curriculum publishers or material, you can find samples on many publishers’ websites. If you join or visit a local homeschool support group, you will find helpful homeschooling parents who would be willing to let you look at the resources they use.
I hope this helps you as you begin your homeschooling journey. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.
Blessings,
