Teens Love Teaching Textbooks

Independent Homeschool Math Curriculum

We love it Teaching Textbooks homeschool math curriculum! I have had two families sit down with our Teaching Textbooks Geometry to try it and both families bought the product.

What I like about the course is the independence of my high-school boys (now 10th and 12th). You can read the lesson or listen to the lesson with the CD-Rom on computer, or do both. Mr. Sabouri has a pleasant voice. You do five practice problems on that day's lesson to see if you understood the lesson, followed by a problem set of 22 - 25 problems. Correct the answers with the solution manual. If the student has any problem understanding the reason for an error, there is a set of solutions CD-Roms with each and every problem verbally explained. Amazing!

The Algebra I and II were my boys' favorites. Lessons usually took one day and ran on schedule. They both found Geometry harder. The statement and reason problems made the lessons longer. Even though there were only 110 lessons in Geometry for the year we needed to makes some lessons run two days.

The whole program cost more than other courses, but they are popular right now and I have been able to sell them and get most of my money back.

Martha, thanks so much for sharing about Teaching Textbooks, and what is working with your high school boys. Your honest comment about the cost of the curriculum is especially helpful - thanks for including it. Blessings to you as you homeschool high school! Heather :)

Mathematician Recommends Teaching Textbooks Homeschool Math Curriculum

Homeschool Math Curriculum Review

Homeschool Math Curriculum Review

Mathematics major and homeschooling mom recommends Teaching Textbooks homeschool math curriculum to get less-than eager students interested and learning math.

From one who loves Math, who majored in Mathematics, but whose children are not quite as eager, Teaching Textbooks has been a welcomed addition to our family.

Teaching Textbooks homeschool math curriculum explains concepts well in a conversational manner and is very easy to understand.

I have used Math 5, Math 7, Pre-Algebra, and Geometry with my children and am very pleased with the comprehensive subject content and presentation; so are my children. They even recommend it to other families!

Linda, I'm so glad you shared your success with Teaching Textbooks; your opinion is sure to help others! Blessings, Heather :)

Teaching Textbooks Grade 4

Home educator shares some pros and cons of Teaching Textbook homeschooling math curriculum...

We love Teaching Textbook lesson format and my daughter loves working through the lessons without "interference".

The material is clearly presented.

Unfortunately there is no way to go back and repeat lessons so the review built in to the spiraling curriculum had better be enough for your particular child.

Technically the program is a bit clunky and does not utilize any of the more current techniques for making curriculum interactive.

Trish, thanks for sharing what you like and don't like about this homeschooling math curriculum. Your thoughts are appreciated. Blessings, Heather

Teaching Textbooks Homeschooling Math - Yeah!

by Sherry

Homeschooling Math Review

Homeschooling Math Review

We are getting ready to start our 9th year of home education. This will be our third year using Teaching Textbooks homeschooling math curriculum.

This was the one subject where my daughter and I clashed. Previously we had used ABeka and Bob Jones for math. At the end of sixth grade I asked her, "Is there anything about homeschool you would like to change?" Her answer, "Please don't teach me math." So, I started a serious search for a curriculum that would teach my daughter math.

I found Teaching Textbooks homeschooling math curriculum, and we did a trial run in seventh grade. She still doesn't love math, but we no longer fight over math. We used it for eighth grade, and the format was a little different but it still worked.

This past year, was pre-algebra. There were times she struggled, and I made her do-over some units, until she mastered the material.

It is totally done on a computer. I will comment on 8th grade and up format. It comes with a textbook. I have my daughter read through the lesson first, than insert the cd-rom into her computer and watch the lesson. It works through a lesson, the student has five practice problems, which I strongly feel the student should do. Then they have around 20 problems to do for the lesson. I would check her work, and if she missed any, I would make her work them again. If after two times she still didn't have the right answer, I would let her view the problem worked out on the cd-rom.

The wonderful thing about this curriculum is the teacher doesn't need a math major, and every single problem has the answer worked out step by step on a cd-rom.

This will be our homeschooling math curriculum through high school. It is one of the reasons we are going to continue to home educate through the high school years.

It is pricey, but you can source it used, and if you have more than one student, you can use it over and over and over again. No annoying updated versions to make it unusable! We never write in the textbooks that come with it, all the work is done on paper. In the end, the cost is worth it, because my daughter gets to stay at home, and we don't fight over a subject.

Homeschooling Math with Teaching Textbooks

Teaching Textbooks Homeschooling Math Review

Step-by-step explanations and solutions to every single problem and test question make this homeschooling math program a "Godsend" for homeschool families.

I LOVE the Teaching Textbooks homeschooling math program and recommend it to anyone who will listen! I'll cut right to the chase: The thing that makes this program a Godsend for homeschooling parents is that along with the text/workbook, you receive dvds with step-by-step explanations for the solutions to every single problem in the course, including the tests.

Never again will you face that stressful situation where your child "doesn't get it," and asks for your help, requiring you to study the text and figure out how they arrived at that answer. The dvds show step-by-step on a whiteboard, with audio explanation, how every problem is solved, including reviewing concepts as needed. So all your child has to do when they are stuck is pop a disk into the computer and follow along.

My son used this homeschooling math series for 9th grade algebra, 10th grade geometry, and 11th grade advanced algebra. With those courses under his belt he tested right into college algebra in 12th grade at our local community college. At the time, not one "schooled" friend of his who had taken advanced algebra in 11th grade at our local high school tested into college level algebra.

Another great aspect is that the courses are very fun. The Harvard educated brothers who developed the program and write the texts have wonderful senses of humor that appeal to youth. My son was often heard chuckling as he did his math.

Well-written and interesting review of Teaching Textbooks homeschooling math curriculum, Shari! Thanks for sharing; your review will be so helpful to others! Blessings, Heather :)

Teaching Textbooks Eliminates Homeschool Math Fears

by Shana

Teaching Textbooks Homeschool Review

Teaching Textbooks Homeschool Review

I was terrified to teach math. Capital T. I felt called by God to homeschool but I had NO idea how I was going to pull off teaching math. Enter Teaching Textbooks. It is an AMAZING program that I highly recommend! It is a computer based program that is very hands off for the teacher. The lecture, the assignment, and the grading is all done by the program.

If you are looking for a math curriculum that allows YOU to teach...this is not it. I needed this to work and it really did. My son enjoys it, as much as any 8 year old can enjoy math.:) I love that there is no preparation, no grading, and no stress to make them understand fractions!!

The price tag can be a little scary but I believe that it is worth every penny. This is our second year and I am planning on continuing on with it and am saving the disks for my daughter.

Shana, I'm so glad you found a homeschool math program that took away your math-teaching fears! Your comments will be helpful to other parents; especially those who are concerned about teaching math to their children. Blessings, Heather :)

Teaching Textbooks Level 6

by Melissa K

Teaching Textbooks Level 6

Teaching Textbooks Level 6

We've been using Teaching Textbooks Level 6 for the past year and love it. I needed to make a change after my son struggled with Saxon 54 and it was taking too much of my time to work with him. Teaching Textbooks level 6 solved our problem perfectly. He would load in the CD-ROM, listen to the lecture and work the problems (mostly) on his own.

The lessons have just the right amount of problems for practice and review. The initial cost is quite high but I will be able to use it again with my younger children. I would suggest that you take the placement tests on the Teaching Textbooks website and if you are in any doubt, go up a level. This is not a super rigorous math course but I feel it is very well-rounded and fits our needs well.

Melissa, thanks for sharing your experience with Teaching Textbooks Level 6 curriculum. I appreciate it and I know others will find your thoughts helpful! Blessings, Heather :)

Teaching Textbook Homeschooling Math Success

Teacher Loves Teaching Textbooks for Homeschooling Math

Teacher Loves Teaching Textbooks for Homeschooling Math

My daughter was using another well known homeschooling math curriculum for math and was failing miserably. Since both my daughter and son were using the same curriculum and my son was doing well and she was not, I assumed it was the way she was learning.

I switched to Teaching Textbook Math which is visual and she started to get straight A's. I even thought that she was cheating, so I sat with her and watched over her taking her test and sure enough she got a 100%. This changed her life from 9th grade - 12th grade. We used the Teaching Textbook homeschooling math curriculum throughout her highschool year (even Algebra/Geometry) and she just graduated with a 3.5 grade point average.

Congratulations to you and your daughter on successfully homeschooling through high school! Thanks for sharing how Teaching Textbooks homeschooling math curriculum helped your daughter with her math struggles; your thoughts are much appreciated. Blessings, Heather :)

Teaching Textbooks for Math

by Robin Yule
(Southern California)

We used Teaching Textbooks for grades 6,7 and now 8th. They are wonderful, especially for homeschooling parents who don't have the eloquence required in explaining a math concept, (such as myself)! The CD's begin with the teacher explaining how to work the math problem, then the student is given some practice problems, then the lesson starts.

Students get another chance if they work out the problem incorrectly (they work on paper workbooks and punch the answer into the computer), and there is a score at the end of the lesson. The student picks an animal to be his/her cheerleader if they choose.

Each lesson has review of all previous math problems before tackling the new concept. For my son, who likes math, this is a favorite. For my daughter, who hates math, this was too much work and we had to forgo some of the review problems to keep her attention focused. Overall a fantastic Math curriculum!

Excellent review of Teaching Textbooks, Robin; thanks for sharing! I appreciate the time you took to help others learn more about this homeschool math program. Blessings, Heather :)
