K12 Homeschooling Review

K12 Homeschooling Review

Like the K12 program, but hate the price? Check out some great K12 homeschooling tips and advice from an experienced K12 user...

I have used K12 homeschooling curriculum for nine years and have used it for grades K-8. I love that it's so complete and is a secular curriculum. One of the things that I dislike about K12 is its price. I have had to move to something different for my high schoolers because it has priced itself out of my budget.

The cost cutting tips that I have to share for this is by evaluating which subjects are worth the money. If you are looking to use K12 homeschooling materials but need to make things cheaper I recommend buying a separate math program. With K12 you purchase each course separately so you do not have to buy the whole thing. There is nothing wrong with their math program but I didn't feel it was appreciably better than other programs out there. Saxon is just as good and priced better.

Language Arts and Science are the two subjects that I like to get from K12. We are not creationists here and it has been very difficult to find a science program reflective of that.

The K12 History program is very rich and is the kind of history that I wish were taught in public schools. But don't feel like you have to pay the high K12 costs for it. After working with it for a couple of years, I found that the Story of the World books are exactly the same thing that K12 uses for 1-5 grades. The worksheets are the same, the printouts, all of it. I also save money by teaching History to all of my kids at the same time. We all just move along together rather than trying to teach four different subjects at the same time.

The Art program from K12 is very nice and follows with the Story of the World program as well.

The K12 homeschooling Music program is a waste of time and money.

Great money-savings tips, Misty! I think others will find your insight helpful. Thanks for sharing your K12 homeschooling experience with us! Blessings, Heather
