Michigan Home School Field Trip Savings

Gather up your kids for some fun Michigan home school field trips this year, but first stop at your local library; you'll save money.

What home schooling family doesn't love the library? Our family usually visits the library at least once a week.

One benefit of living in a metropolitan area - there are six public libraries, all within a 10 mile radius of our house! When my kids get bored of one library, we move onto the next and read our way through that one.

Ok. So what does the library have to do with home school field trips? Well, back in 2007, Macy's sponsored a library program called The Museum Adventure Pass. Library patrons in the Metro Detroit area could visit their local library and check out a pass for museums and cultural centers in and around the Detroit area. The program was created to encourage library card holders to learn about and enjoy the different museums and historical sites in Southeastern Michigan.

When the program debuted, one of the first passes we checked out was for the Ford Rouge Factory Tour. I remember it clearly! We left for our weekly library trip to gather up our educational resources for another awesome home school week, and came back with our books AND six passes for the Ford Rouge Factory Tour – for free! That week, our whole family went on a fabulous (and FREE) home school field trip to the Ford Rouge Factory.

Although Macy's discontinued the program in 2011, you can still take advantage of some great Michigan home school field trips with a similar program, called Michigan Activity Pass... and it's also available through your local library.
