Homeschooling in Louisiana Help
My child has been having problems in school so we would would like to homeschool her, but the Monroe City School District says we can't. Can we homeschool her? If not, what do you recommend? Hi Vonna, I'm not sure why they are telling you that you can't homeschool your daughter; you can legally homeschool in the state of Louisiana.
Louisiana laws do require you to submit a notice to your district. Did you do that?
Here are the Louisiana homeschool laws, compliments of HSLDA. You can also find them on your state's government website.
Approved Home Study Program http://www.louisianaschools.net/lde/curr/1650.html
Registered Non-Public Schools http://doe.louisiana.gov/lde/curr/2158.html (I found a link to a spam site in the pdf document on this page, just FYI.)
If you submitted the proper documentation, I would ask them why they believe you can't. Perhaps there is a requirement that you haven't fulfilled yet, or some other concern.
It may be helpful to print off a copy of your state's homeschooling laws to show your school district's officials.
If you have submitted everything that you need to, I would definitely contact an organization like the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA).
I hope this helps. Please feel free to post any more questions you have, or email me with an update.
Blessings, Heather
