Alpha Omega Bible Homeschool Curriculum Review
I just started homeschooling my 9 yr. old son in December of 2010. In February of 2011 we started using the AOP Lifepac Bible course from Alpha Omega Publishing. I totally love it! My son works independently on it and only calls me for the parts in the book that call for parent participation which really is only hearing the child read the vocabulary words and its definitions. And maybe one or two other small things like 1 time my son had to memorize a verse and then recite it to me. Parents also have to sign off certain parts after the child has done the work and parents also have to grade the tests and sign them. I love how it combines reading comprehension, testing and many other subjects while learning about the word of God. The lessons are broken down into sections so the child doesn't feel like it’s never ending. And they really do remember what they learn! For example: I am a minister and I also am the bible school teacher in our church for grades 2-4. This past week the bible class lesson was on a subject my son had already covered in his Lifepac Bible Class at home. So when I mentioned what we would be learning about that day my son jumped up practically begging me to let him tell the story! Well...how can I tell him no if this was a great opportunity for him to put into practice what he's learning and show others they too can teach and even preach the word of God. So he taught the story and did a wonderful job making his mom/pastor/teacher (hahaha) very proud of him! Praise the Lord! When I first ordered this course I was nervous I wouldn't understand the teachers guide enough because I had peeked at another one once and it looked so confusing to me. But, when I got it I went over it and it is all so simply to understand and use! It even teaches you how to use the grading systems (80%, 90%, etc. and A,B,C,F). I have decided that for next year I will definitely be purchasing the whole AOP Lifepac 4th Grade Curriculum which consists of only 5 subjects, if I remember correctly. I have already purchased the 4th grade History Course for next year and it looks just as good. So for next year I just have to buy the other courses.
