Kentucky Homeschool Question: Next Step
(Murray, Ky. USA)
Kentucky Homeschool Help
I have checked the Kentucky homeschool laws and requirements. All I have to do is send a letter of intent to home school to the county school board.
I would like to show that I am ready to begin before I send this letter. What do I need to do now?
Mary Hi Mary,
Although I don't homeschool in your state, I read through the Kentucky homeschool laws and I believe all you need to include in the letter are the names of the children you will be homeschooling. You do not need to include the materials or curriculum you will be using.
Per the HSLDA website:
"It shall be the duty of each private, parochial, or church regular day school to notify the local board of education of those students in attendance at the school." KRS § 159.030 (b). Home schoolers need only send in a letter with this information during the first two weeks of school. ("Memorandum, RE: State Regulation of Private Schools," Gary Bale, Kentucky Dept. of Ed., January 21, 1985).

Maybe someone who homeschools in Kentucky will post additional information for you.
