K-12 Curriculum: Nevada Virtual Academy Review

by Adrienne Reina
(Henderson, NV)

I love the K-12 curriculum because it has really helped my daughter who struggles with math and reading.

This year was our first year and she had struggled a lot last year. But Praise God, her last report card had all A's.

I love that K-12 curriculum lets students master the lesson before they go on to the next. And on top of all of that, it's free with a free loaner computer and printer. So, check it out. www. K12.com.

Tennessee Virtual Academy

Tennessee Virtual Academy Happiness :)

Tennessee Virtual Academy Happiness :)

We found Tennessee Virtual Academy through the K-12 program on television. My wife and I have five kids, four of which are in school. We did not like the school process, schedule, or social life.

We had a problem because of the laws on homeschooling did not allow for a mixed family like ours, with children from different parents, to be schooled by the other parent who was not the biological parent. Tennessee Virtual Academy helped us overcome this, and we love teaching all four of our children - it has been the best thing we ever done.

Stephen,
Thanks so much for sharing your experience with Tennessee Virtual Academy, as well as sharing why you chose to school your children at home. I appreciate the time you took to help other parents. Blessings, Heather :)

K12.com - Virtual School AND Summer Camps

by Nancy Hall
(Chicago, IL)

We are off on a new adventure with the 2011-12 school year - the Chicago Virtual Charter School using the K12 curriculum. So far, I'm excited about the quality of what K12 brings, but somewhat apprehensive about the charter/public school aspect of things. This is a low-cost introduction to virtual schooling, though, and if we like K12 but not the Charter aspect, we may start saving and invest ourselves in 2012.

Over the last few weeks, we've been introduced to an aspect of virtual school at K12 that is now called Classroom Connect (formerly Elluminate) by attending Virtual Camps. These have been a great thing, as Chicago was 100 degrees plus last week and we were not wanting to actually GO anywhere. Instead, we logged in for virtual camps/classes on art, recycling, water safety and the magic of science from the comfort of the air-conditioned living room.

As these are offered to anyone enrolled in K12, anywhere in the world, the class sizes ranged from 60 to 200, which felt a little large. Seems like our age bracket (K-5) could be split further to facilitate smaller classes and encourage easier interaction. We enjoyed Art Camp most, I think, but learned something from all of them. It was a great way to be introduced to an aspect of K12 that I'm sure we'll be very comfortable with soon.

We've also enjoyed some samplings of games and school activities that are offered in the online school. It's more of a way to slowly get acquainted with K12 and keep my almost-1st grader excited about school at home.

Excellent review, Nancy! Thanks for taking the time to help other parents learn more about K12.com Virtual School and Summer Camps; your thoughts are informative and helpful. Blessings, Heather :)

K12 Virtual School Review

by Brandi
(Florida)

Learn more about K12 Virtual School from a busy Florida mom of four kids...

I am a mother of 4 and decided that a home-schooling environment would best suit my family. I was a little hesitant to enroll because I was worried about the time requirements and that we would have a difficult time keeping the schedule. The program couldn't be easier, the interface is clear and all of the instructors that I've dealt with are very helpful.

It is stressed that this is not homeschool because a curriculum is provided. It is a virtual program, public school online and on your time. I love being able to adjust our schooling the way I'd like. If I want to change my subjects and do all of a certain subject one day, I am able to. The program is a lot more flexible than I had originally thought. If you're on the fence, give it a try! :)

Brandi, thanks for the K12 Virtual School review and for taking the time to help other parents learn more about this public school-at-home option.
