Illinois and Homeschool Money

I would really like to know what type of attention does Illinois give to its homeschooling parents? I am a homeschooling mother of two small children, 5 and 2, and I need some financial assistance.

The schools in my area are riddled with crime and kidnappings and I would like to know what Illinois has set up financially to support a home-schooled family. I need cash, or a grant... NOW!

Hi Brandi!
Unfortunately most states don't do anything for homeschooling parents as far as homeschool money or financial aid specifically for homeschooling. Many homeschooling families like this because as soon as you get money from the state or government, there are always strings attached = more regulation and control.

I'll post your question to my site; someone else may know more than me about Illinois financial assistance, etc.

There are organizations that can help you, but you are going to have to put in some leg work. First, you need to get involved in a local support group. Not only will they give you the support and info you need, many times new friends will lend you materials or give you some great ideas for cheap or no cost education ideas.

Also, go to the Home School Legal Defense Associaiton (www.hsld.org) you can find local groups in your area. Many of the state homeschool conventions will have a tabel with free items as well.

There are many organizations out there that provide free Christian curriculum. (sorry I cant remember their names at the moment) Be sure to read the blog posts on Homeschoolbuzz.com .

Your children are young so really, all you need for now you can find in your local library. Get first reader books, a bag of M&Ms to teach simple arithmetic, and bird or tree book and head to the park or backyard. This will give you a full year to get involved and get the info you need.
