Home Schooling Reading Fun
Hooked on Phonics play-based approach makes home schooling reading fun for both young children and their parents!
Before our daughter turned 2, she had learned her alphabet, and before she turned 3, she had learned the phonics. So when I found the deluxe box for HOP-K on clearance at Tue Morning for $35 I was thrilled to start working with her on reading. It was shocking and amazing that she finished ALL the reading books, workbooks, and computer games before her 4th birthday! She reads at a Kindergarten level and we check out the level 3/C reader books for her from the library.
A few months ago, I started our 2.5 year old on the HOP-K alphabet/phonics flashcards and he has learned the phonics and a dozen first words. (He'll be three Oct 2.) I also started them on the Hooked on Math (K) and Hooked on Handwriting (K) and they can add all combinations of numbers 1 through 10. (Subtraction has proven a bit trickier though!) I am thoroughly impressed with HOP. It works for us!
We are continuing HOP-K this fall, as well as Day-by-Day plans for preschool, and "365 Activities for Preschoolers." We also start our day with devotional, and take field trips to the Zoo, Science City, Museum, Farmstead, and more to enhance the learning process.
They're 4 and 3, so I want to keep learning play-based. Whether I teach them at home for 1 year or 12, we're having a blast and they LOVE school!! Stephanie, thanks so much for sharing your reading success using Hooked on Phonics. I appreciate you taking the time and encouraging other parents who are home schooling reading or considering HOP. Happy Reading! Heather :)
Hooked on Phonics Kindergarten Home School Reading Program

HOP Home School Reading Program
Hooked on Phonics Kindergarten Level is an inexpensive and motivating home school reading program.
When my daughter finished preschool and all her classmates were reading these little books that were part of their phonics, my daughter couldn't. So over the summer we got Hooked on Phonics Kindergarten. My daughter enjoyed it a lot.
There are lots of little books that build on each other to teach sounds and words. There was also a little board that we put stickers on when we read a book and passed a level- just like a game. It was great motivation.
Now my daughter is going into 2nd grade and she has already read almost all her school books for this year. She loves to read. We picked up our copy of Hooked on Phonics at Sam's and it was really inexpensive.

Hooked on Phonics Review - Learn to Read K-2

AJ learning to read using the HOP program
We started using Hooked on Phonics (HOP) this past summer for our 7 and 5 year old boys. We've been using it now for about 5 months and LOVE the program!
Our 7-year-old is in 2nd grade and was already a pretty good reader. The HOP program has given him an extra boost and helps him understand many of the rules of the English language. He's finished with the first 2nd grade workbook and is excited to start on the second workbook.
Our 5-year-old is in Kindergarten and knew his letters and sounds when we started the program. He's now almost finished with the Kindergarten HOP workbook and has made AMAZING progress!!! He can sound out a lot of words and has so much confidence in reading. He loves reading basic books by himself and I love that he's so excited learn!
We bought the previous HOP program when the newest version was released so it was very affordable. I highly recommend it! Just be sure to look for sales or discounts. :)
Thanks for the the informative Hooked on Phonics review! I appreciate the time you took to help other parents learn more about this homeschool reading program. Blessings, Heather :) PS I love the picture you included!
