Homeschooling Kindergarten Curriculum Question

by Shevon Gansowski
(Hudson, New York)

New York mom has a homeschooling Kindergarten curriculum question...

My son is five and was supposed to enter kindergarten this year but because of a rare bone disease that he has and the school not being able to accommodate him right now I have made the decision to homeschool my son, I have many kindergarten workbooks and cd roms. My only question is can I use what I already have to teach my son or do I have to buy a curriculum? Thank you so much.

Hi Shevon,
You don't have to buy a specific homeschooling kindergarten curriculum to teach your son at home. You can use the materials you have. I know that New York has some homeschooling requirements you need to follow - registering, submitting an IHIP, etc. If you haven't already done so, you will want to familiarize yourself with them.

You will find some other New York homeschool questions and answers on my website that may be of help to you...

Visitor to US wanting to homeschool NEW
by: karen anderson

Hi, Not sure if you can help me. We are British residents and are planning a year long trip of which 4 months will be in NY. My daughter will be 6yr she has been in main stream school in Spain since she was 2 1/2 but I want to home school her for the year. Do I need to register her as home schooled if I am visiting the the US for that length of time? Thanks
