Homeschooling in South Carolina Question

by Amanda Vazquez
(Newberry S.C., USA)

Mom would like to begin homeschooling in South Carolina, but needs a little help...

The school board wants me to show a letter or something saying that I am legally homeschooling my child. What do I need to get?

Homeschooling in South Carolina Help
by: Heather

Hi Amanda,
I don't homeschool in South Carolina, but found the homeschool laws for your state via HSLDA:

http://www.hslda.org/laws/analysis/South_Carolina.pdf

I sent your question out to some of my homeschooling friends; hopefully someone will stop by and give you more details. Please contact me again, if you do not get a reply in the next couple of days.

Blessings,
Heather

HS in SC
by: April K

Hi Amanda,
To homeschool in SC you have 3 options to homeschool under.
I use option 3: which means I join an accountability association (there are many that you can pick from that vary in price; this is a new one that is affordable: http://www.tschaa.com/ ) I also agree to school 180 days per year covering the basic subjects. I also keep a journal of what we cover and a midyear report and send in a year end report to our association. There is a lot of support out there. Yahoo groups are great for meeting other homeschoolers and getting help also. Please feel free to reach me if you have further questions. Heather knows how to reach me though Facebook and can send you my contact info. Sorry I do not want to publish it on here.

stop right now and call
by: mrs dani

first, they have no right to demand anything!! you need to contact the Homeschool Legal Defense NOW!!!!!!! You can call 1-540-338-5600, if you are not a member tell them but explain you believe the local school district is requesting info they have no right to. (Also, become a member. it is cheap and worth the piece of mind)
