Homeschooling Help: What Should I Do?

Homeschooling Help: What Should I Do?

Homeschooling help needed! Concerned mom wants to know what she should do about her daughter who has missed too much school...

I have a 15 year old who missed to much school and I don't know what to do. She is already far behind! She is scared that she won't be able to go to High School with the rest of her friends.
What should we do about that?

Hi Yolanda,
You can hire a tutor who can help your daughter get caught up to where she needs to be. You can also homeschool her for the rest of the year. If she puts her mind to it, I am sure she can complete 8th grade and start high school in the fall.

You will find a variety of support groups and educational opportunities for homeschooling families in Austin, Texas. Who knows? Maybe you both will like homeschooling so much, you will continue to do it for high school.

You can check out the Austin Area Homeschoolers group for more information about specific enrichment events and ways to connect with others.

I am not sure if you will be using the curriculum from your daughter's school. Often its hard to use these materials because you don't have the teacher's manual and all the items that go along with the course.

Some homeschooling curriculum like Alpha Omega homeschool curriculum provides parents with assessments so you can test your child and know exactly where she should start in their program. You will also eliminate wasted time and money.

You will find lots of homeschool reviews on my website, written by other parents like you. I am sure you will them very helpful when looking for the best homeschooling curriculum for your daughter.

You can find a lot of curriculum used online, or through others in a homeschool support group. Vegsource has a homeschooling area and is a great place to look, once you know what you are looking for.

Hippocampus offers free online homeschooling courses for high school student and pre-high school students (math). Check your local library for free homeschool curriculum, resources or other materials you can use.

I hope this helps you and your daughter. If you have other questions, please feel free to ask. Other website visitors may also provide homeschooling help or share their experiences with you too.
Blessings,
Heather :)
