Homeschooling Help Needed

Homeschooling Help Needed

I want to be home schooled but my mom is at work from 8 to 6, so who would home school me? We don't have much money and I know its expensive to hire someone.

Could I homeschool myself with books? With some help? Could my mom just help me for a few hours after she gets home? How does it work and what are rules?

I homeschooled myself through Highschool. My mom was home, but I took classes on Dvd, so I didn't really need her help. You could also look into taking classes online. :)

Yes, your mother can homeschool you around her schedule. That's the great thing about homeschooling, you can be as flexible as you need to, depending on your needs and your family's situation.

Homeschooling takes great diligence - for both parents and students. I am not sure how old you are, so depending on your age, your mom will need to make sure you are properly supervised during the day.

Some parents have the flexibility of working at home for some/all of the time and some can bring their students to work with them (obviously, this depends on what your mom does for a living and if her employer would allow that option).

Many grandparents or other family members are willing to help out so that families can homeschool. You may even find another homeschooling family to help you during the day.

Make sure you and your mom learn the homeschooling laws and requirements for your state.

If you are diligent and self-motivated, you can learn yourself. There are lots of different kinds of curriculum and courses you can take, depending on how you like to learn.

Depending on what you choose, your mom can help you in the evening and check your work for you. You could work under an umbrella school that provides services like grading, etc. but if you are trying to cut costs, your mom can do it herself. Many courses provide answer keys etc. for easy manual grading; most software/online programs come with a built-in tracking and grading system.

We use a variety of curriculum with our teenage daughter - from traditional curriculum to online/video classes. You will find lots of options that fit within your budget.
