Homeschool Questions

Hi, I read your website and found it really helpful but, I do have some questions. What exactly is a homeschool co-op? How do I go about finding out if there is one in my area?

Do you have any additional information about starting one's own business?

Another question I have is about the curriculum is it all online or is there text books they go by or is it a combination of both? I really appreciate your input on this.

Answers to Your Homeschool Questions
by: Heather

Hi Tabatha!
You posted some great questions; they're italicized below with my answers directly underneath. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask. :)

What exactly is a co-op?
A homeschool co-op is a group of families who join together for a common purpose; to help each other with homeschooling.

Most homeschool co-ops provide classes for homeschooled students, but some are set-up for group field trips and other enrichment opportunities. Classes are usually taught by member parents, but some co-ops hire outside individuals and professionals to teach classes that parents feel unqualified to teach themselves.

Co-ops vary in size from just a few families who meet once a month or less, to hundreds who meet regularly throughout the school year. Smaller groups usually meet in homes and larger homeschool co-ops meet in churches or other facilities.

How do I go about finding out if there is one in my area?
If you contact a statewide or local support group, they will be able to help you find a co-op in your area. If you are unsuccessful at locating a support group/co-op, let me know and I will help you.

Do you have any additional information about starting one's own business?
You will find some helpful information on starting successful homeschool businesses (or any type of business) on my website.

I also have additional information about starting your own business - I will email it to you. Let me know if you receive my email okay.

Another question I have is about the curriculum is it all online or is there text books they go by or is it a combination of both?
You can choose any type of curriculum that works best with your children and your family situation. Some families enjoy using online programs, while others don't. Many use a combination of curriculum or courses from various publishers and providers.

My family uses a variety of resources. I?m quite relaxed with my younger children. We enjoy reading together, lapbooking and unit studies. My teenage daughter takes online classes, traditional courses at home, as well as a few co-op classes.

If you're referring to a specific curriculum that was mentioned on my website, please let me know.

Blessings,
Heather
