Homeschool Preschool Math Fun

Practicing Number Identification via the Family Walk.

In the warmer times of the year, our family often takes a walk after dinner.

Living in a typical residential suburb, we pass 10-20 houses per block! We've gotten in the habit of asking our four yr old to tell us the numbers in the addresses on the houses we pass.

Since the numbers are "random", there's several examples of 0-9 yet enough repetition to get in A LOT of practice before she loses interest.

I've heard that if you have an older child, have them "add up" the address for quick, single-digit mental math. For example, 1642 Elm Street becomes the sum of "13".
