Homeschool Preschool Counting Fun!
Our six children (ranging in age from 3-13) like to be creative in coming up with their own ideas to keep themselves busy while driving around.
Our eight year old came up with the idea to count the number of motorcycles she sees. It simply started with: "Mommy, I am going to count motorcycles until I reach 100!"
She got to 50, then 70, then 100 quite quickly - so, she decided to keep going.
Now, she has everyone in the car (5 siblings, friends and me) searching and scouring the lanes of traffic and sides of the road to be the first to spy a motorcycle.
Our three year old is also in on the action!
Now, they've made it more creative and have broken it down to how many blue ones they see and how many red ones are spotted and the ratio of men to women.
We are surely getting quite the math lesson all while have a great time in the car and passing the time with friendly-competition together time.
Our six year old now wants his own 'thing' to count - so, he has begun "Counting the number of airplanes that he has seen in his lifetime!"
Not only are they having fun counting, they are very aware of the different sights and sounds around town.
I believe that if we, as adults, can slow down long enough during the day - we'd also find some 'thing' of our own to count!
