Homeschool Grammar: G.U.M. Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics

Homeschool Grammar Resource

Sweeten up your homeschool grammar lessons with the G.U.M. book – highly recommended by The Well-Trained Mind.

I bought the G.U.M. Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics book as recommended by The Well-Trained Mind. I have used this book with success with my daughter. It has simple homeschool grammar lessons that stress the usage of correct grammar.

While each lesson is short, The Well-trained Mind suggests starting a grammar rules notebook as a reference tool. The student would put in things like when to use "a" or "an", etc. We didn't do a rules notebook this year and I wish we had. When the review section comes up in the GUM book, my daughter forgot the rules and had to thumb back through the book to get to the right section.

To me, this GUM book seems appropriate for grades 3-4. I am actually going to re-buy this book and do it again this year. I liked the format of it, and think that we could just re-do it to fortify the information/lessons in it.

What a fun-looking book, Kathlene! Thanks for sharing this easy-to-use homeschool grammar resource with others. Blessings, Heather :)
