Home Schooling Reading Fun
Hooked on Phonics play-based approach makes home schooling reading fun for both young children and their parents! Before our daughter turned 2, she had learned her alphabet, and before she turned 3, she had learned the phonics. So when I found the deluxe box for HOP-K on clearance at Tue Morning for $35 I was thrilled to start working with her on reading. It was shocking and amazing that she finished ALL the reading books, workbooks, and computer games before her 4th birthday! She reads at a Kindergarten level and we check out the level 3/C reader books for her from the library.
A few months ago, I started our 2.5 year old on the HOP-K alphabet/phonics flashcards and he has learned the phonics and a dozen first words. (He'll be three Oct 2.) I also started them on the Hooked on Math (K) and Hooked on Handwriting (K) and they can add all combinations of numbers 1 through 10. (Subtraction has proven a bit trickier though!) I am thoroughly impressed with HOP. It works for us!
We are continuing HOP-K this fall, as well as Day-by-Day plans for preschool, and "365 Activities for Preschoolers." We also start our day with devotional, and take field trips to the Zoo, Science City, Museum, Farmstead, and more to enhance the learning process.
They're 4 and 3, so I want to keep learning play-based. Whether I teach them at home for 1 year or 12, we're having a blast and they LOVE school!!
