Home School vs Public School Questions

Unsure mom is torn between home school vs public school for her seven year old daughter. Can you help?

My daughter is 7 in the second grade, and she wanted to go to public school. So I found one of the best public schools in our county and now I don't know if I did the right thing. Me and my husband talked and prayed about it but I don't know.

She has just started she told me that the work was too hard. Do I put her in first grade are do I take her out and find a better homeschooling curriculum? If I put her back a grade does that really mess with the her self esteem? Maybe I didn't do a good job. I need help!

Pray for Wisdom
by: Diane Clarke

I know how you feel and so do most homeschoolers. I have struggled with many questions and many doubts and still do. My advice to you is to go with your gut feeling! Let the Holy spirit lead you as you and your husband pray. You are on the right track. As you know, it is very important that you get your husbands support and you both agree on your decision to homeschool or not to. After you pray,go with what is in your heart and God will honor it! If you and your husband do decide to homeschool,I strongly encourage you to get into a homeschooling support group. I just joined one this summer an it has been a tremendous blessing for my two sons and me. If I can help you in any way, you can email me at adclarke60@yahoo.com I will pray for you and your family. Sincerely,Diane Clarke

Did I make the right Choice? NEW
by: Anonymous

My 7 year old is in Second grade this year. I had him in public school previously, but this year I decided to home-school him. I felt in my heart it was the best, because my son would get bullied in school, and he would come home crying and sad. As a parent I was furious and wanted to protect him. I decided to home-school him (currently in process) He's now sad because he wants to go back to public school. I feel that the curriculum are more stronger at home than they would be at public school. He's even taking a secondary language, something public school is not giving him. I really want him to give home-school a try. It's only been a week of school. I am having mixed emotions, what should I do!?

Did I make the right Choice? NEW
by: Heather

Hi! I would continue on homeschooling your son. You know in your heart-of-hearts what your son needs - sometimes it just takes some time for everyone to adjust!

There are ways to connect your son with kids his age, so he doesn't feel disconnected or alone. I would encourage you to find a homeschool group in your area. Some groups offer opportunities for field trips and/or classes, as well as support for parents.

You could also schedule play dates with some of his friends from school.

When we pulled our oldest out of private school in first grade, she missed going to school as well. I joined a local group and got her connected to other homeschoolers; it made our family's transition easier.

I hope this helps you! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
Blessings,
Heather
