Stress-free Home School Art Curriculum
If you avoid art lessons home school, check out a new home school art curriculum called Art Class.
I don't know why we don't do art in our home school. Actually... I do know why we don't do art in our home school.
- I don't like the mess.
- Art usually takes too much time.
- I never seem to have the special tools available.
- I don't have the room to store a lot of extra supplies needed to complete most art projects.
- I also don't know much about art history.
I was asked a couple weeks ago if I would review a new home school art program. I hesitated at first, but the sentences,
"...learn step-by-step how to draw without the necessity of a workbook or expensive art supplies. Finally, parents do not have to be art experts to teach their children art instruction and appreciation!"
caught my attention, so I agreed.
First Art Lesson in Years!
My 8yo and I sat down and watched the entire first five lessons together and thoroughly enjoyed them. Honestly, it was the first art lesson that we have ever done in our home school since, well... a really long time. My daughter even asked if she could go through the lessons again by herself. She really wants to learn how to draw now.
Easy Home School Art Lessons
Art Class is a newly released art program perfect for a home school setting. Lessons are taught by master artist, Pat Knepley; she is engaging, easy to listen to, and communicates concepts clearly.
Each lesson takes about 15 minutes to watch. At the beginning of each lesson, Pat tells the students what they will be learning and also takes a minute to review what was taught previously. Pat's lessons are slow enough that your children can practice the techniques as she teaches – but not too slow so that they become bored.
I REALLY like that you only need a few affordable and easy-to-find tools to complete lessons; for most lessons, just a pencil, eraser and paper are needed.
Appreciate Art and the Master Artist
Pat's passion for art is evident in her teaching. She smiles throughout her lessons, engages her audience (you) and will get even the most reluctant student to want to start drawing. Your child will feel like Pat is their own personal art instructor!
I love how she incorporates Biblical truths into her lesson so naturally. You'll not only start to appreciate art more, but you will also gain more appreciation for the Master Artist.
Affordable Home School Art Lessons
The entire program contains a whole year of art lessons (36 lessons = 9 CDs, with 4 lessons on each CD) and costs $99.
You can also buy the individual CDs (with four lessons per CD) for $15 – that works out to about $3.30 a lesson, or $2.75 per lesson if you buy the entire year.
Art classes at a community center or even a home school co-op can cost more than that AND you will have the CDs to watch over and over again. (I think this curriculum is also perfect for a homeschool co-op.)
I didn't really know how much my daughter enjoyed Art Class until later that evening when I overheard her say, "Daddy, guess what? I did art lessons today! With my very own art tutor!" :)
