Help! From the Kid

by ANONYMIS
(New Mexico)

Do you homeschool in Mew Mexico? Middle school student wants to school at home but needs some help and guidance. Can you offer some help?

Ok, so we are thinking of homeschooling. We have had some problems in public school and believe it will create a much more safer and appropriate environment. I have also heard it has a better learning experience because your child will have more help. I am in middle school. I think it would be a lot nicer.

I am planning to go back for highschool because I want that social experience. But as you know middle school is hard! I have friends who our homeschooled. They absolutely love it! But I need to know who I can contact; I live in New Mexico.

I have read all laws but need to know the process. How can I start, how do I let the state know, what books and items are needed. Please, this is very frustrating.

If you can help I would very much appreciate it.
Thank you,
ANONYMIS

and I homeschool my girls. One in 7th grade and 2 in 6th. If you'd like to email me privately, I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you have and tell you about NM Homeschool laws. I also attend a church that has a lot of homeschooling families that can offer great collaborative support! sound4hound@yahoo.com

the New Mexico Home School Community and if you need a start to answer some questions I would recommend going here http://newmexicohomeschoolcommunity.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?board=9.0

You do not need to be a member of my website to read the information at this link.

First take a deep breath. Take it one day at a time. There is a lot of information and it is easy to become overwhelmed. You will find that the laws in New Mexico are very easy. You will need to register for the next school year but you can easily do so online.

Next I would recommend finding a support group either near you or one that specifically fits your family's educational philosophy.

Since you would like to return for high school I would recommend checking out the standards so you can formulate your curriculum around those.

After that you are free to utilize the curriculum that you want to follow to get the education you need. There are a ton of resources it just depends on what you want to use. You can also use the materials that your school district uses in those grade levels just contact the superintendent's office and they can give you more information.

It is overwhelming but it is also an incredibly freeing experience to be able to formulate and lead your own education. Follow your dreams and enjoy the journey!

You are welcome to contact me and I can help you further if you need
