The total amount of land they cover is a whopping 84 million acres making up park land, lakeshores, battlefields, monuments, historical sites, and more... that's a lot potential educational and homeschooling family fun waiting for you to experience!
Here's a homeschool savings tip for you... over half of these national parks do not charge an entrance fee - ever! That means you and your homeschooling family can go on some fun, FREE homeschool field trips anytime you want during the year, as there are national parks and landmarks in every state.
For the parks that charge an entrance fee, you have six opportunities to receive FREE admission, during the year:
We all know who MLK is, and in celebration of him, you can receive free admission on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, on January 20, 2014.
During the annual National Park Week in April, you and your family will can enter national parks at no charge. National Park Week runs from April 19-27, 2014.
The National Park Service takes care of our national lands and places, so they can be enjoyed and experienced by everyone, for generations to come. The National Park Service was established in 1916, by Congress, to care for and protect our national parks, monuments, landmarks, etc. Anyway, the foundation's birthday is on August, 25, 2014. On this day you will receive FREE admission to national parks - yay! :)
National Public Lands Day is an annual event, held on the last Saturday in September. In 2014, Nationals Public Lands Day will be on September 27.
Every Veterans Day weekend, you are invited to celebrate by visiting national parks for free, on November 9-11.
Along with the dates above, you can also get free park admission to national (a limited number), state, and local parks on Get Outdoors Day, on Saturday, June 14, 2014. Get Outdoors Day encourages Americans, especially young people, to develop healthy, active, outdoor lifestyles.
