Five in a Row/Beyond Five in a Row Homeschooling Unit Studies

by Tamie
(SW Michigan)

I've used the Five in a Row homeschooling unit studies for six years. I've used it with daycare and my own children too.

It's about the easiest way to involve a group of children. I'd gather the children onto the "story rug" and read the story. I'd then have my child join me on the couch.

After we did what we were going to do in the FIAR curriculum on the couch, the entire group of children from infants and up would go into the kitchen. All the children did whatever my daughter was doing - or similar.

If the children could not do the "school" bit, they could just color on the map or such. And, if they were only infants, I'd give them some "table toys".

We've since moved into Beyond FIAR but the children still listen to the chapter and participate as much as they can.

Tamie, I too love FIAR. I've used it with three out of four of my kids so far and never tire of it. I recommend it to every new homeschooler who has young children. It is so very easy to use and children love the books.

I like that we focus on one FIAR subject per day and have added lapbooking to our unit studies the past couple of years - fun, fun! :)
Thanks for sharing!
