FIAR Homeschooling Unit Studies Review

FIAR Homeschooling Unit Studies Review

Cozy family time enjoying good books and exploring new topics together – some benefits of FIAR homeschooling unit studies...

Five in a Row provides a framework for teaching picture book homeschooling unit studies, along with many useful lesson ideas and resources to accompany each unit. I had met several "FIAR" families prior to purchasing the curriculum a year and a half ago. They spoke of cozy family time enjoying good books and exploring new topics. I agree whole-heartedly. The selection of books used for the units is exceptional, and covers a variety of geographic locations, writing & illustrating styles, and subject matters.

The units work well as a stand-alone preschool or kindergarten, and I imagine could serve as an accompaniment to a family using other resources to cover reading and math in more depth.

The FIAR books are reasonably priced. My only concern about the books is that some of the picture books used are out of print and difficult to locate. The author does address this issue, though, and I found that the hunt made these titles all the more a treasure! Of course, the best cost-cutting tip for this curriculum is to check out the needed picture books from your library, but we found that owning some of our favorites was a treat.

I highly recommend this style of teaching for little ones, and Five in a Row is an excellent resource to get you started or to carry you through 1-2 years of homeschooling.

Excellent review of "Five in a Row", Gina! I LOVE "Five in a Row" too and highly recommend this easy-to-use homeschooling unit studies curriculum to other parents of young children. Thanks for sharing some great tips and helpful insight for others. Blessings, Heather :)
