Lessons are simple, easy to follow, with the exact wording to use if you are uncomfortable explaining the material using your own words. Giggling during the first lesson, my daughter kept smiling and repeating complete sentences for me easily. I was impressed with how quickly she had memorized the first poem, which she still remembers two months later. A main idea behind this book is to work on the memorization stage of learning, otherwise known as the grammar stage. This is classical education, which encourages students to memorize facts (even if they don't quite understand them) so they can reach back into their memories later in life when they are actually analyzing data and forming responses to questions and problems. By repeating complete sentences, their ears are trained to what grammar should sound like as well as how it should look. Something that I love about this book is that the lessons are short--some take as little as five minutes to complete! This is terrific and effective with my five year old.
