EZTales.com Reading Review
I will start with my opinion of EZTales. Although some of the songs are traditional and cute, some of them are quite annoying too. One that comes to mind is the tooth brushing song with screaming people in the background. Some of the songs just teach weird things, such as orchids being the one that they love. A lot of the music has quite of a rocky beat to it. I'm not one of those that is against all beat or anything, but when the music makes you feel irritated or angry we have a problem. I also found some of the words hard to understand due to the prominent background noises or music.
I found that not all the letters sounds are being taught accurately. Some may say that this is nit picking but, I don't teach my children that 'D' says "duh" with a pronounced short 'U' vowel sound. That makes it so that the kids will sound out words like 'dad' as duh-a-duh.
The puzzles and games seem to be okay. I like the variety of topics there are fantasy and reality (history, animals).
The website does have a lot to offer, but I'm not sure that it is something I would go out and subscribe to. My kids are 8 (just turned), 6 (almost 7), and 1 (just turned). My kids typically like the 'younger/learning' cartoons. However, my 8 year old did not like EZTales at all, my 6 year old lost interest quickly, but my one year old loved it.
Overall if this was a regular website that I could visit with my kids from time to time for free I would do it. I just don't think we would use it enough to justify a membership. I know kids can learn through cartoons, songs and video/computer games, but I also like to keep that to a minimum and max out the bang for the buck when I do use those avenues.Stephanie,
