Eclectic Homeschooling Style with Abeka Books

by Wendy
(Detroit, MI USA)

Detroit home educator shares an Abeka Books review, as well as helpful Abeka cost-cutting tips...

Why do you like this homeschool curriculum?
We enjoy using Abeka books because of its advanced placement learning style and the fact that it is a Christian based curriculum.

In addition to Abeka Books we use worksheets from various websites such as: shepherdsoftware.com (tons of free educational materials and several downloadable programs), IXL.com, worksheetlibrary.com, http://i-cias.com/babel/arabic/02.htm (we are learning the Arabic language this year) and many others.

How long have you used it?
We have used Abeka Books curriculum for 10 years now because they start with fun projects from age 2 through high school.

What grades did you use it for?
Age 2 - now 6th grade with intentions to use it throughout High School.

What do you like most about it?
The classes are laid out for you, the teacher's manual gives great examples and Abeka is Christian based.

Is it affordable? Yes and no

Why? It depends on the family budget.

Do you have any cost-cutting tips, etc. to share when using this curriculum?
When using this curriculum I determine what needs to be learned on various grade levels and use Internet resources. I've also found that if you go on EBAY during the spring and summer months you can often purchase the books sometimes brand new for pennies. There is an Abeka support group online where the members give away materials or sell them for really cheap and affordable prices. I was able to purchase all of her books up to 12th grade for about $450 total for all on EBAY.

Great review, Wendy! Thanks for including some helpful Abeka money-saving tips too! Blessings, Heather :)
