Odyssey Learning Compass Review

Certified public school teacher homeschools her children using Compass Learning Odyssey; read how she teaches full-time and why she chose this virtual curriculum for her family...

I am a certified Florida teacher currently teaching in the State. I am also a parent who has chosen virtual homeschooling over the traditional brick and mortar setting that I spend every day of my life in. I am fortunate to have an education coach at home with my children to guide them. I have used Compass Learning Odyssey in the school system and have found it engaging for students, easily navigable and efficient at tracking progress. I was so excited to see Time4Learning offering this program for the areas of Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. Personally, I have used this system for the past three years (in the public school system grades K-6) with Exceptional Students that have learning disabilities and have found it very successful.

Compass is unavailable directly from the company unless you are a district or school. However, Time4learning.com has it available and the cost is well worth it around $35.00. You will not find another cross-curricular, virtual, self-contained program for the money. It is a very reasonable monthly charge and it has flexibility. For example: if you have a third grade student who is on level in Math but has trouble with reading you can access a lower reading level and build them up to grade level. The same is true if you have a student who is above grade level in a subject (they can use a higher grade level for enrichment). This makes it affordable and flexible. I would also like to mention one more program-Ticket to Read. It is an engaging reading program very affordable for the year at 20.00 that I also use in combination with Compass Learning Odyssey.

Hillary,
Wow, you are one busy mom! Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to help other parents learn about Compass Learning Odyssey; your comments and insight are very helpful. Thanks, too, for mentioning that this program is available through Time4Learning.
Blessings,
Heather :)

Online Home School Curriculum: Compass Learning Odyssey/Child U/Time4learning

Online Home School Review

Online Home School Review

Compass Learning Odyssey, also known as Child U, is also the online home school program that Time4learning.com uses. We have access to this program through our local district, but if you don't have access to it, you can pay $20 a month and use it on Time4learning.com. They also offer a cool playground reward system with subscriptions to sites such as Brainpop as part of their program.

We have been using this online home school curriculum for three years now. My daughter loves the animation, and the check marks and gold stars for when she has completed a section. I love that it keeps track of what she's done, and how long she took to do it, and keeps the scores of all her tests and assignments. They have a few areas where kids can write or play around with numbers (in the Math section) that my daughter really enjoys.

The downside is that some of the animations might take too long and frustrate a child who would rather go faster, and sometimes instructions need deciphering and explanation by an adult (but not so much in grades K-2, just when they start getting into grade 3 and above). Also, as they get older, the animations get less, and there is more reading with pick your answer from these choices kind of thing, and my daughter doesn't like that.

I like too that Time4learning.com charges month to month, so that if you find your child or children aren't into it anymore, then you haven't invested hundreds of dollars.

The program is very thorough in math and language arts, and has some very interesting science and social studies units as well.

Hi Brandie,
Thanks for recommending Time4learning's affordable online home school curriculum. Busy, budget-conscious parents looking for affordable online solutions will find your experience very helpful. Blessings, Heather :)

Very Disappointed!!! NEW
by: Anonymous

Once my child had finished all of his Language Arts and all lessons were checked completed.... then they updated the lessons for new National Standards and suddenly MOST of his lessons were missing the completed check marks!!! I contacted the a Manager Sue. Sue was rude and unprofessional. She told me it didn't matter that the check marks were removed when the system was updated. I told her it was. Once an entire level has been checked completed the check marks should never be removed due to any update. The system has a serious flaw and I doubt that it will ever be addressed.

Love this curriculum NEW
by: Anonymous

We have used this curriculum for years and love it. As far as the lessons being checked off that has never really been anything we cared too much about, we knew where we left off and picked up from there. We also skipped around a bit with some of the lessons to suit our needs. The cost is great and you can cancel at any time. Most of us have spent more than that on curriculum and found out after the fact that it wasn't for us. If you try it and don't like it then at least you haven't broken the bank.

update issue NEW
by: Anonymous

It is unfortunate that with their update issue that all previous work was lost. We found that too. Thankfully it was at the beginning of the school year so we just started brand new with the new year. I am sad tho that they were rude to the person above. The update isn't an issue with Time4Learning but with Compass Learning Odyssey, which is the program that they are using in their system. It is unfortunate the customer service was rude.

Car detailing can be defined NEW
by: Anonymous

Car detailing can be defined as the process of makeover of your old car. The process includes a variety of aspects including paint restoration, cleansing interiors, engine refurbishment, wheels care and car's exterior detailing which transforms it to a new one. It turns into almost the same condition as the new one.

If you are in the mobile car NEW

If you are in the mobile car wash business and you should be. Then you know that your clean work vehicles is your best piece of advertising. But what type of signage should you put on it? Your work vehicles will be very visible in the parking lots while you are working.

Every metal-made object such as NEW
by: Anonymous

Every metal-made object such as roofs, pipes, and vehicles needs special caring to withstand such harsh temperatures and climates. As seasons change so does the metal. With improper caring, the metal will look dull, rough and even rusty. Good thing there is corrosion services available.

New customers are exciting! NEW
by: Anonymous

New customers are exciting! A customer that stops in each week is dull and uninteresting. Sometimes the customer service you experience changes the moment you drive the car off the lot. Or, there may be small changes over time. The company stops offering free coffee or now charges for something that was free a few months before. Small concessions make an existing customer feel unimportant especially when new customers are showered with incentives and perks.
